Chapter 297
Chapter 297
“Mr. Chadwick, I’ll be ready in a jiffy.”
Gwendolyn spoke while tidying up her workspace. After organizing her desk, she finally turned and walked out of the office.
She hesitated for a moment before affectionately looping her arm through Howard’s, looking up at him with a shy, sheepish smile.
“Did you have fun today?”
“Yes.”
Gwendolyn nodded emphatically.
“I felt the satisfaction of being a healer today. Claude’s recovery is thanks to everyone’s hard work and the collaboration among colleagues. It’s what allows us to help more patients.”
“Mr. Chadwick, I’m really pleased. I feel like I’m making a difference in the world.”
Her belief in her medical path was stronger than ever.
Howard gazed at her earnestly, her almond eyes shimmering like tranquil pools, her whole being seemed to glow. His heart softened, brimming with an intense, tender possessiveness.
This woman was his.
“To celebrate, I had Marina whip up a feast for you,” he said with a gentle laugh.
Gwendolyn blushed, “That’s too much trouble for Marina.”
“She enjoys it, and likes keeping busy.”
No doubt the table would be laden with hearty, nourishing fare. He was fine with it, but Gwendolyn could do with some fortification.
She was too delicate for his liking. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
“Alright.”
Gwendolyn’s steps were light as she got into the car with him.
The young couple returned home, all lovey–dovey, where Marina had already set out the meal. The table was filled with nourishing delights.
“Mr. Chadwick, Mrs. Chadwick, please eat up. I’ve put a lot of time into preparing these dishes, so don’t let my efforts go to waste.”
Marina didn’t leave after speaking, and she stayed to make sure they finished their meal.
Gwendolyn was stuffed, and Howard ended up polishing off the rest.
“I’m so full,” she muttered.
“Then we should get some exercise, let’s head up to the room,” Howard said nonchalantly.
Why head to the room for exercise? Gwendolyn’s mind uncontrollably drifted to the events of the previous night.
10:22
She paused, “Isn’t it bad to exercise right after eating?”
Howard raised an eyebrow, “You’ll have digested by the time we’re ready.”
Gwendolyn’s cheeks flushed with the unspoken implication.
She didn’t voice her question but followed Howard upstairs to the master bedroom. Her lips pursed, hands clenched into fists, and she was nervous. It was only seven or eight in the evening. Wasn’t it too early for
that?
“Come here, change into this.”
Howard handed her a bag, and when Gwendolyn peeked inside, her face turned even redder.
The swimsuit was a vibrant red with very little fabric.
Did he buy this?
“Mr. Chadwick, do I have to wear it?” He had torn her little black dress last night, and now he wanted her in this fiery red number.
Did men really enjoy such things?
Howard glanced at her, “If you prefer, you don’t have to wear anything. It’s just Marina and us at home, no one else will see. I’m going to slip into my swim trunks.”
“What?” Gwendolyn was confused.
“We’re going swimming. That’s a swimsuit, what did you think it was?”
Gwendolyn’s embarrassment was palpable, “I’ll go change.”
Clutching the swimsuit, she retreated to the bathroom, taking several deep breaths before stripping off her dress. The swimsuit was revealing, designed to cover only the essentials, and looked incredibly sexy.
She wrapped herself in a large towel and cautiously stepped out of the bathroom.
Howard’s eyes swept over her, a flicker of appreciation in his gaze.
The bold color suited her beautifully, the exposed skin only accentuating her fair complexion.
“Let’s go,” he said, his voice a bit hoarse.
“Okay.”
Gwendolyn carried her clothes out, and as she moved, a small box of pills fell to the floor. The box was clearly labeled as short–term contraceptives and showed signs of use.
Howard picked up the box before she could, his expression cool as he looked at her, “Taking precautions?” Gwendolyn’s heart tightened, a wave of guilt washing over her as she nodded.
