CHAPTER 107
Darius‘ POV
The following morning at dawn, a sad knock resounded on the door. I hadn’t. slept a wink all night. I had to first come up with a plan together with Mason to lure Ryker out of his hideout. Once Mason and I were done, I went to Reina’s room. She was sleeping soundly, which was something I was grateful for.
I thought Reina wouldn’t be able to sleep since Angela wasn’t home but I was proud of my princess. I went back to the study room and kept on staring at the clock. I couldn’t even close my eyes to sleep.
When I didn’t know what Angela was going through in Ryker’s den, how the fuck was I supposed to close my eyes and sleep? She could be in danger, she could be suffering.
I might not have been there at that moment but I swore on my life to kill anyone who touched a strand of her hair. Anyone who dared to touch her will burn in the fire of my wrath. At the same time, I was afraid.
I was about to make breakfast for Reina when I heard the knock. It was gentle yet firm. As I wasn’t able to respond to the first knock, the person behind the door knocked again and again.
By the time I came out of my study room, Mason was also out of the guest room. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow, I shrugged. I didn’t have an idea who it could be.
“Daddy,”
Reina called out from the stairs. I looked up to see her holding her doll so tightly in her hands. She had tears rolling down her face.
I wanted to walk up to her but she stopped me in my tracks. “Open it,” she said. “Ree,”
“Open the door, Daddy,” she cried.
My heartbeat raced so rapidly that it was unbelievable. Mason walked up to her and carried her in his arms. She buried her head in his neck and continued
sobbing.
I grabbed the doorknob and steadied my breath for a while before I opened the door. It was Azalea on the other side of the door.
“Good morning, Alpha,”
I hummed. “What’s going on Azalea?”

He looked sober and sad. “I just received some sad news from the hospital,” “Okay??
“Madam’s sister is dead!”

Something horrible dropped in my stomach and I sucked in a breath. It wasn’t the first time I’d be receiving news of someone dying, but this one was painful. I never had a close conversation or relationship with the girl but she was a wonderful aunt to Reina.
Each day I visited Reina at their house, she would glare at me and leave the room. All Reina would tell me were the wonderful things Brittany did for her.
“What about their mom?”
“I don’t know about her state just yet but I’ll go check on her at the hospital,” nodded. “She’s gone through so much. We’ll hold a memorial for her this morning. The mother can give her a funeral whenever she’s ready,”
“Yes, Alpha,”
“Please send a memo around the pack. Tell everyone we lost an important member of the pack,”
Azalea bowed and left. I closed the door and mumbled some incoherent curses. The sound of Reina sobbing got my attention. She didn’t understand what death was but she knew she wouldn’t be seeing Brittany ever again.
“Will she ever come back? Will I ever see her again?” She asked Mason who was holding her gently and soothing her.
Mason nodded. “Not physically but you’ll see her among many things. In the wind, in the sunshine, and in the people around you, you’ll always find a tiny bit of her,”
He explained in the best way he could. Reina shook her head and said she didn’t understand. Mason promised her that she would soon enough.
I sat down on the couch and rubbed my palms on my face. It would kill Angela if she found out her sister was gone. How was I supposed to tell her that I couldn’t protect her family?
*****
That morning, three hours after we announced to the pack about her death, a memorial was held in her honor. A lot of people gathered in the Alpha’s mansion and said a lot of good things about her. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
I hadn’t gone to see their mother because I didn’t know what I was supposed to tell her. Angela wasn’t back home yet. I couldn’t even protect my woman or her

Sister
How the fuck did I become so useless? When did I start feeling so helpless and stupid?
“Don’t be too hard on yourself, Darius,” Mason advised. He stood beside me. I’d left the crowd who were inside the Alpha’s mansion to stand outside for some fresh air. Mason knew me far better than I thought he did.
“I’m not. Just one way or another, I feel her death is my fault,”
Mason smirked. “Don’t say that, Darius. You’re not to be blamed for her death. It’s all on Zack”
“Zack?”
“I overheard some girls gossiping about how she left home to go with Zack. They said she wasn’t the first girl to be returned back to the pack in that state,”
I frowned. “When was the first case?”
“I didn’t ask but I can still find a way to find out,”
I raised an eyebrow. Ever since I knew Mason, I’d always wondered how he always got his information but he never for once told me anything. If Zack was indeed the culprit, then Brittany’s death was my fault. I invited Zack into the pack. I’d seen his details as the doctor who treated some werewolves in the pack and based on recommendations from the elders, I hired him permanently.
“Are we going to talk about Reina’s ability to see the future?” Mason suddenly asked.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” I replied sternly.
“Really? We both know there’s everything to talk about. That’s what killed our mother,” he whispered.
I clicked my tongue. “As if she didn’t deserve to die,”
He frowned at me. “She must’ve been a shitty mom to you but she was at least a nice mom to me,”
“Ah! Congratulations!”
“We need to do something about Reina,”
“The best thing to do is shut up about it. I’ll talk to her and know how to keep the secret within ourselves. Until a problem manifests from it, we shut our stupid traps, understood?”
“We don’t have to wait until a problem…,”
I cut him off. “We’re here for a memorial. Show the dead some respect,”
I left his side and walked back into the house.
