Chapter 61
Chapter 61
Without saying anything more, Lenny turned around and left.
Looking at his back, Scarlet suddenly felt that behind that proud, unshakable facade was a lonely,
downcast man. He hid all his emotions and everything that made him feel anything from the world.
He only did the right thing. Whether the right thing was what he wanted or not didn't matter.
Scarlet pressed her lips together in a thin line.
For a moment, she considered rushing over to Lenny and hugging him tightly.
However, with her current place in his life, it was inappropriate for her to do so.
Looking at the cookies she made, she hesitated for a moment and then decided to make him a soufflé
and two crepe cakes.
Then, she took them to the study and knocked on the door.
"Hey, it's me." Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"Come on in."
The door wasn't locked. Scarlet slowly pushed it open. Lenny didn't even look up and remained buried
in his work.
It was said that men looked the most handsome when they were focused on their work. Lenny was
proving that true now.
Scarlet put down the tray gently, and Lenny looked up. He frowned slightly when he saw the desserts.
"What are those?"
"I made you a soufflé and two crepe cakes. Have a taste. I just thought... I want to apologize for all the
troubles I've caused you, and I feel sorry for Miss Marshall. But I can't go against Grandma's will. She
is old and in poor health. I don't want to make her sad.
But you can rest assured that I will stay out of your way and not badger you. I swear to God."
But you can rest assured that I will stay out of your way and not badger you. I swear to God."
Scarlet raised her right hand, looking serious and determined.
Upon hearing what she said, Lenny felt unhappy.
Why did he feel that way?
He didn't like that she sounded so decided to stay away from him and even swore to God. But he
shouldn't feel that way.
He heaved a big sigh and fixed his eyes on her. The complicated look on his face made her tremble
with fear.
Did she say something wrong?
Soon, the strong emotions in his eyes dissipated. She even thought that maybe she had just imagined
them.
"Well, this is my peace offering to you. Would you like to have a taste? I have gone through a lot of
trouble to make them. My hands were even scalded by the oven."
Hearing this, Lenny looked at Scarlet's little hands. Her fingertips were red and covered with ointment.
She also had some flour on her little face, and she seemed to be unaware of it.
She looked at him expectantly like a begging puppy.
He didn't have the heart to refuse. He closed the file he was working on and went to the sofa.
Seeing him take a bite, Scarlet breathed a sigh of relief.
She said, "Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, a traveling circus found a lost tiger cub in the
forest. They took it with them and decided to raise it. Afraid that the cub would try to run away, they put
a rope around its neck and tied it to a post. The cub was too small and powerless to break free, so it
stayed where it was tied, and soon, it was tamed."
Lenny began to eat slowly.
Scarlet continued, "Eventually, the cub grew up and became a tiger with sharp claws and fangs.
However, it remained tied to its post. It had enough strength to escape, but it never tried.
It had attempted to escape so many times when it was a cub, but all its efforts had been in vain. The
tiger thought that things never changed and that trying just inevitably led to disappointment.
You see, animals are the same as humans in many aspects. As children, we couldn't control many
things and lived according to our elders' requirements. But as adults, we're free to make our own
decisions, and we shouldn't be afraid to do so."
Lenny stopped eating and wiped his mouth after Scarlet finished her story.
Then, he raised his eyebrows and looked at her with cold, sharp eyes.
"What are you trying to tell me?"
"I just... I want to say that you can do whatever you like."
"If I don't want to be the heir of the Foster family, can I just quit and run away?"
"Well..." Scarlet was stunned.
Didn't Lenny want to be the heir of the Foster family?
But he had no choice. He was the only one who could inherit the Foster family's fortune and legacy.
