Chapter 110
Selena felt like her wrist might snap under his grip, and she couldn't help but frown, baffled by his sudden change in mood. However, she was mindful of how things looked to others, so she clamped down on her irritation and replied calmly, "Dr. Campbell did me a favor, so
I went for a walk in the park with him as a thank you. He was just helping me get a leaf out of my hair."
"Really?" Everett said, clearly skeptical.
Selena, exasperated, shot back, "What else could it be? What's going on in that head of yours?"
Innocence was written across her face, and Everett scrutinized her for a moment. When he saw the leaf tangled in her hair, his chilly demeanor started to melt.
With a graceful flick of his fingers, he plucked the leaf free, waving it in front of Callum, perhaps intentionally, as he coolly said, "I'm her husband. I'll handle it. Thank you for stepping in."
Callum just gave a laid-back smile and stayed silent.
"Oh, speaking of which, Callum, why didn't you make it to our wedding yesterday? I had Derick send you an invite. Didn't you get it?"
Everett let go of Selena's wrist and casually draped his arm around her shoulder. They looked like the perfect couple-him tall and dashing, her petite and charming.
Selena shot him a sideways glance, surprised he'd gone through the trouble of having Derick deliver the invite.
It did make sense to invite Callum; after all, he and Everett were close. She realized she'd brushed it off, not giving the wedding much thought.
"I did get it, but I was caught up with something and couldn't make it. Sorry about that. I'll definitely be there next time," Callum answered smoothly.
Everett's mouth curled into a smile, though his eyes were still ice-cold. Out of nowhere, he pulled out a couple of pieces of wedding candy from his pocket, a leftover from a kid at the reception.
"Since you missed the reception, have some candy instead. Maybe it'll bring you luck in finding your special someone soon."He handed over the candy.
Callum, unfazed, took the candy, his eyes flicking briefly to Selena, a smirk forming. "Thanks, I'll hold you to that."
A hint of frost-appeared in Everett's eyes, and as remembering something, he added, "I heard your mom's been scouting for a match for you, if all goes well, there might be congratulations in order
soon.Congrats in advance, Callum."
Callum's smile wavered just a touch.
Selena, having listened in for a while, finally picked up on the strange vibe in their exchange, sensing a passive-aggressive back-and-forth.
Everett was acting like he was marking his territory, or like a kid whose favorite toy was about to be snatched away.
Well, she needed to have more faith in herself. He was just being petty.
She recalled Callum mentioning how they had once been rivals over something dear, which had brewed some tension between them. She didn't expect to see it play out in front of her like this.
But Selena wasn't their prize. Right now, she felt like a stand-in for Margot, and the thought made her blood boil.
Was Everett trying to rile her up every day?
He had already claimed Margot, yet he couldn't resist poking at Dr. Campbell's sore spot.
All for Margot, he tossed aside even the most basic decency, acting petty and jealous like a spiteful ex. How embarrassing!
Selena, thoroughly fed up, decided
to cut through the tension. "Dr.
Campbell, you've got appointments this afternoon, right? It's nearly. lunchtime. You should grab something to eat so you're not running late.” All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
