Chapter 12 Nancy Has Signed
Nicholas raised his head and looked at her. “Are you sure you want 14 million?”
“You regret it now?” Nancy looked at him mockingly.
“If that’s what you really want, I’ll agree, Nicholas replied.
In her anger, Nancy tore up the divorce agreement right before Nicholas.
“I’m such a failure! Nicholas, I’m just a materialistic woman in your eyes.”
“Do you love Madelline that much? You’d give me 14 million without hesitating just because of her?” Nancy questioned.
“It has nothing to do with Madelline. Nancy, I’ve said that as long as your requests aren’t unreasonable, I’ll do my best to fulfill them. I ended the agreement prematurely, so I’m the one in breach. If you want the money, I’ll provide it,” Nicholas explained.
Nancy looked at him and suddenly burst into laughter.
She clenched her fist, tears welling in her eyes as she laughed. “Since you’ve made up your mind, there’s no point in explaining anything to you.”
“You can go. I don’t want to see you.” Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
Lynn entered the room cautiously after Nicholas left.
“Why are you here?” Nancy asked, her face filled with anger.
“Mr. Sallow had me print five copies and send you the electronic version. He said that you should calm down before signing them,” Lynn answered as he organized the documents on the table.
Nancy grabbed the pen and signed without even looking at it.
Then she tossed it to Lynn and said, “Tell him I don’t want his money at all.”
She didn’t bring a single penny when she went to the Sallows.
And she wouldn’t take a single penny when she left.
After receiving Nancy’s signed “divorce agreement, Lynn immediately called Nicholas, “Mr. Sallow, Mrs. Sallow has signed it.”
“Signed?”
Seemingly surprised by how smoothly it went, Nicholas was rather shocked.
“Did she say anything?”
“Mrs. Sallow said she doesn’t want your money at all, Lynn reported truthfully.
After hanging up the phone, Nicholas rubbed his eyebrows vigorously,
For some reason, he suddenly felt upset.
On the other side, Madelline smiled gently and asked, “Nicholas, what was signed?”
“The divorce agreement,” Nicholas replied lightly.
Madelline was stunned and asked in disbelief, “Do you mean she has agreed to the divorce and signed it?”
“Yes.”
“That’s great, Nicholas! After so many years, we can finally be together.” Madelline hugged him happily.
However, Nicholas seemed somewhat disinterested for some reason. Hearing that she has signed the agreement without hesitation, he strangely didn’t feel the joy and relief he had expected.
“I need to go to the toilet.”
Gently pushing Madelline away, Nicholas went outside to light a cigarette.
The smoke ignited, and his distinct silhouette became hazy in the smoke.
She signed it quickly.
She is off to see her beloved.
In her heart, Nicholas couldn’t even compare to a middle-aged man who had been married twice. This realization left him feeling deeply frustrated.
When Lynn brought the divorce agreement, Madelline happened to be there.
“Give it to me. I’ll give it to Nicholas later.”
Thinking that Mr. Sallow was about to marry her, Lynn didn’t suspect anything and handed the agreement to her.
When she saw the division of property and what Nicholas was giving to Nancy on the agreement. Madelline suddenly clenched her fists.
So many things?
It’s like what an ordinary person wouldn’t enjoy even in several lifetimes of hard work.
Nicholas just gave it to her easily.
When Nancy married into the Sallows, she didn’t bring a single penny. Why should she get so much money in the divorce? This thought made Madelline seethe with anger.
The next day, Nancy packed her things and was about to leave the hospital.
Suddenly, an unexpected guest came to the ward.
“Why are you here?” She looked at Madelline with a less-than-friendly tone.
Thinking about her purpose for coming today, Madelline tried to control herself and put on an extremely gentle smile. “Let’s have a coffee! I want to apologize.”
Madelline is apologizing to her?
How is this possible?
Nancy knew that it was the bait that had been left for her.
In the coffee shop downstairs, Madelline ordered a latte and then looked at Nancy. “What would you like to drink?”
“I’ll have a glass of water.”
Madelline’s face suddenly turned awkward. She felt Nancy was doing it on purpose.
“What do you want to say? I don’t have much time to waste here,” Nancy said.
“I was a bit too harsh last time. I hope you don’t take offence.”
“What if I insist on taking offence?”
This was unexpected, and it caught Madelline off guard. After a moment, she smiled and said, “Then I genuinely apologize, Nancy. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
This apology didn’t seem very sincere.
Madelline must be hiding something.
“Let’s get to the point. I’m leaving if you’re not saying anything”
Upon hearing this, Madelline quickly became anxious.
She grabbed Nancy’s arm while taking something out of her bag and placed it in front of Nancy.
The divorce agreement?
When she glanced at those words, Nancy sneered. “I have signed it. What happened? Are you afraid I will lie to you so I have to sign it again in front of you?”
“I didn’t mean that.”
Madelline smiled and continued, “I think there is a little problem with the property division in your divorce, so I made a slight modification and want you to sign it again.”
A slight modification?
Nancy glanced at her and picked up the “divorce agreement”.
When she saw that the divorce compensation had changed from “1.4 million” to “140 thousand”, she suddenly laughed and asked, “Did you change this agreement, or did Nicholas change it?”
Madelline thought Nancy would be furious, but she didn’t expect her to be so calm.
I changed it.”
Nancy looked at her disdainfully and asked, “Did Nicholas know? Are you sure he’ll agree?”
“Of course, my decision is his decision.”
“Since that’s the case, why don’t you dare to tell him? And why are you giving it to me behind his back? Madelline, you are the daughter of the Phillips. Even though you have a disabled leg, you still have your pride. Yet, you’re resorting to such means for money. It seems like you’ve lost. yourself in the pursuit of wealth.”
Nancy’s words infuriated Madelline to no end.
“What about you? When you enter the Sallows, you didn’t contribute a single cent, not even a dowry. Why do you deserve to take away so much after the divorce?”
“Who told you I didn’t bring a dowry?”
Madelline sneered. “With your poor mother and gambling-addicted father, what kind of dowry could they provide? Even if there were one, it would undoubtedly be miserably insufficient.”
Nancy raised her wrist and pointed to the jade bracelet on her hand, saying, “Oh? You mean this miserable thing?”
Madelline’s eyes widened in disbelief when she saw the jade bracelet. She exclaimed, “It’s impossible! How could this jade bracelet be yours?”
“When my mother saved Father and Grandpa years ago, Grandpa gave it to her as a keepsake. Later, when I married Nicholas, Grandpa said it was my dowry. Although it’s considered a dowry,
it belongs to me for a lifetime, and he made it clear that it would never be given to anyone else. except me.”
Nancy’s words hit Madelline like a cold shock, causing her to stumble.
Of course, she recognized this jade bracelet.
It was a heirloom bracelet of the Sallows, traditionally passed down only to the daughters-in-law of the Sallows and not to outsiders.
Grandpa had given her this bracelet. No wonder Nancy was so confident and bold.
But Madelline, who had faced many challenges, made a bold decision. She said, “Nancy, what if we make a deal?”
