Two are One
Saphira looks at me with her big sparkling eyes and I realize how blessed I am to have such a Beta female. Having her as my confidante in Midnight Moon when I officially become Zane’s Luna is more of a gift from the Moon Goddess. We may not have been very close in Silver Moon, but we are from the same pack and both mated in Midnight Moon. That creates a new, special bond.
I don’t answer her question but take both her hands in mine.
“Saphira, I want to tell you about the best thing that ever happened to me. My mate, Zane”, I tell her with a loving smile on my face. “I was ten years old when his Beta found me in their pack territory, up till now nobody knows how I ended up there. But Jace found me and it was him who brought me the love of my life. I love Zane with everything in me, I can’t imagine a day without him. Only now do I understand why one mate goes insane when the other dies. I don’t want to live anymore if Zane is no longer on this earth”, I say firmly.
“Mercedes! What are you saying? Think of your parents, of our pack. You still have so much to live for”, she exclaims in her melodious voice. “We are a family in Silver Moon, our bond is strong. We use our strength to bring everyone suffering a mental dip back to his own self. That’s how we are, Mercedes, and you know it.”
“What you say is true, I also like Silver Moon”, I support her. “Our pack is great. And as the Beta’s daughter, I feel a strong connection to my pack,” I underline. I hold her hands tighter and look straight into her eyes. “But Zane and I are one and indivisible. We breathe the same air, we have one heartbeat and one mind. I can’t live without him. Every she-wolf is destined to follow her mate, maybe that’s why I feel so close to him.”
I keep an eye on her reaction, she has not yet figured out where I want to go with my story. “Without Zane, I’m half alive. And I want to do everything to make him happy because if he’s happy, so am I. Because we are one. That has nothing to do with leaving our pack, it’s how we are, we are mates.”
Now I see that she is slowly becoming aware of the essence of my story. “The Moon Goddess didn’t pick your mate in our pack, nor did she with mine. Don’t you think she has a plan for all that? And she even got you into a pack with someone familiar, who was also part of your former pack; me. Is that really coincidence?”.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Mercedes, did Jace send you to persuade me?” she asks now, fluttering, her face flushed. “How do you know Jace is my mate? Did he tell you that? Who more knows about this?” I shake my head in denial.
“No, Jace doesn’t know I’m here, when he finds out, I’m sure he will ground me for some time”, I laugh softly. “He has forbidden me to travel beyond our pack without him or Zane. When he came looking for you in Silver Moon, he confessed to Zane and me that he was looking for you, that you disappeared for no reason. Ooohh, Saphira, he was in so much pain. He misses you so much. Jace is such an amazing guy, you couldn’t find a better mate, I guarantee you.”
Doubt slides across her face, Saphira is aware of the fact that I would never lie to her. She fiddles with her fingers and starts biting her nails.
“I miss him too. That night, I could feel that he would be good to me. But I’m so scared. Oooohh Mercedes, I can’t imagine living outside of Silver Moon. The pack is my life,” she explains softly. “I can’t picture myself not seeing all the pack members anymore, my familiar environment. What am I supposed to do in Silver Moon?” Tears are streaming down her cheeks now. She tries to wipe them off with the back of her hand. “Maybe I’m better off with Glary after all. He wants to reject his mate, he doesn’t want to know anything about her. Once he realizes you are out of his reach, our relationship may get a chance. Then I stay in Silver Moon.” I smile softly, grabbing her chin and lifting her head to mine.
“Saphira, that’s so not you. You went to Midnight Moon to get Jasmina for Glary. And now that you’ve met your mate there, do you want to rob your own Luna of her mate?” I point to her. I know this is an acute emotional outburst from her. “You don’t mean that, you’re just looking for an escape. Trust me, Jace without Silver Moon is a million times better than that sick Glary with Silver Moon. You won’t know what hit you with the love Jace will shower you with. All Silver Moon’s mates are passionate”, I remind her meaningfully, all grinning.
Now her face turns deep red, bows her head shyly. I can’t contain my laughter.
“You must know better than me in that regard. How I long for my eighteenth”, I sigh dreamingly. Now it’s Saphira’s turn to giggle at my act. She pats me on the shoulder amicably.
“Stop it, Mercedes. The she-wolves of Silver Moon are the ones who bring out the best in them. They cannot do otherwise. It’s our heat that burns them.” Now we both burst out laughing, supporting each other not to tumble off our seats.
I stand up and give Saphira a tight hug. “Mark him as soon as you see him again. Let him know how we she-wolves from Silver Moon handle this,” I whisper in her ear. “Zane will know right after my first shift when my fangs are deep in his neck. I swear to you.”
Suddenly I feel a simmer running through my body.
I freeze on the spot and stare ahead. This well-known warm feeling comes over me, my being becomes complete like a puzzle.
“This is not possible!” I whisper to myself. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Alpha Rainer approaching, all the while, he sat silently in a corner following the conversation between Saphira and me.
“Mercedes, what’s going on? Are you feeling well?” he requests, concerned….
