Chapter 31
No one has ever taken her side all these years, not even half a word of justice
No matter how much she struggled, screamed, or fought back, it was useless. No one was listening
She felt like a stomped on flower in the mud, too beaten down for another struggle. But Rhett’s words somehow managed to stir her long–dormant heart
“Rhett I mean, no, it wasn’t like that She wasn’t in cahoots with her mom then. It was later when she and her mom plotted to scam my family’s money” Rattled by Rhett’s intense gaze, Ruby stuttered through her words.
Rhett’s presence was overwhelming.
Rhett didn’t bother with Ruby anymore and walked straight up to Kristin. “Carey was not here. so I had her bring me a glass of water. Got a problem with that?” Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
Vincent looked at Rhett in surprise. The words were understandable, but Rhett coming to Kristin’s defense like this was out of character.
This wasn’t like the Rhett he knew. Why would Rhett stick his neck out for a woman like
Kristin?
It only made Vincent’s jealousy more intense.
“Vincent, you’ve got some nerve to raise a hand against a woman,” Rhett said, anger flaring
he saw the swollen handprint on Kristin’s pale face.
Vincent clenched his fists, unwilling to admit he had hit Kristin.
Rhett’s face darkened, and with a low and threatening voice, he demanded, “Apologize!”
Shocked again, Vincent wondered why he should apologize.
“This kind of woman is trashy. I…”
Bam! Before Vincent could finish, Rhett’s fist connected with his face. Vincent stumbled backward, struggling to keep his balance.
“Vincent!” Ruby ran over, dumbfounded, helping him up.
Vincent’s cold eyes met Rhett’s. He cursed inwardly, “Damn it! He did it on purpose, definitely on purpose!”
Rhett didn’t meddle in others‘ business. He must be doing this to get back at him for secretly contacting Mr. Bryce, a warning not to pull any stunts at the company.
After a long moment, Vincent took a deep breath. “Rhett … I realize I was wrong.”
Rhett frowned at Vincent, wondering how the FitzGerald family could raise someone so lacking in manners. “Is it me you should be apologizing to?”
10.30
“Sorry…” Vincent felt humiliated by Rhett, his apology to Kristin through gritted teeth.
Kristin sat on the ground, going dazed, and felt addicted to this feeling of someone having
her back.
So, Rhett shouldn’t have gotten involved.
Slowly getting up, Kristin covered her cheek and walked away.
She was too fragile, too thin as if a gust of wind could blow her away.
Rhett glanced at Kristin and turned his cold gaze on Vincent. “Didn’t your mother ever teach you manners?”
Vincent clenched his teeth. Rhett was humiliating him and his mother. He knew Rhett had never respected him or his mother because she wasn’t born into high society but had risen as a mistress.
Rhett had never taken him seriously.
“Stay away from the company for a while. Reflect on your actions at home!” Rhett warned. him and left, not wanting to spend another moment there.
Since Vincent’s mother entered this home pregnant, it was no longer Rhett’s home.
After Rhett left, Vincent went mad, smashing things in the room.
“Who the hell does he think he is to boss me around?” he shouted.
“Vincent…” Ruby hugged Vincent, scared.
“I’ll trample him underfoot one day. The FitzGerald family’s wealth and company will be mine, and then I’ll see how Rhett can be so arrogant!” Vincent was seething with rage.
“It’s all Kristin’s fault. She did it on purpose. She got close to Rhett to drive a wedge between you two to make trouble for the Turner and FitzGerald families. She’s so cunning. She knows she can only turn to Rhett for help in Silvergrove City, so she’s here for revenge.”
Ruby started crying. “Vinny, what if Rhett keeps protecting Kristin, and she won’t donate her kidney to me?”
“She wouldn’t dare!” Vincent was furious. “Rhett wouldn’t even give her a second glance!”
In Vincent’s mind, Rhett was just seizing this opportunity to kick up a fuss. As for Kristin, she was as manipulative and deceptive as ever.
He wouldn’t let her off the hook the following day.
“Vinny, let’s get her married off to the butler’s son as soon as possible. That’ll save us future trouble,” Ruby schemed.
Vincent nodded. “You’re right.”
On the roadside, Kristin didn’t dare go home as the slap marks on her face were still visible.
She walked slowly, her ankle still throbbing with pain.
“Get in.”
A black car stopped by the roadside, and the speaker was Rhett.
