Chapter 255
Lysander sat in the study, his expression more serious than ever
Then, his phone rang.
He looked at the flashing screen, picked up the phone, and answered, "What is it?"
Crispin was excited on the other end of the line. "Congratulations, Lysander! I'm going to be a dad!"
Lysander's voice was cold as he replied, "Are you crazy?" He was about to hang up.
Crispin quickly corrected himself. "Wait, don't hang up! Sorry, I misspoke! It's not me, it's you! You're going to be a dad!"
"I don't care about your son." Lysander's voice remained icy, clearly upset. He didn't really listen to Crispin.
Crispin replied, "What? Can't you understand me? I mean your wife is pregnant! You knew about this, right?"
Lysander was stunned.
Crispin added, "I also heard from Natalie just now! She said that Elara is pregnant! Is it possible that the person she told you is not another man?"
Downstairs, Elara was sitting with Ursa, who brought her a glass of milk.
As Elara drank the milk, she opened some gifts from the guests.
Ursa asked, "Have you told Mr. Kensington about this?"
Elara replied, "I'll go for the check-up tomorrow and tell my dad. Not yet!"
Ursa said, "That's fine. It's best not to tell anyone during the first three months." Elara nodded.
Ursa asked, "Should I ask Mr. Hawthorne to go with you tomorrow?"
Mentioning Lysander made Elara think of him again. He'd locked himself in the study as soon as he came back. She wasn't sure what was going on with him.
Elara said, "I'll ask him later! If he doesn't want to go, I'll just go by myself. I don't know what's wrong with him. He doesn't seem to like the idea of having a child."
Ursa said, "That can't be. He doesn't like children? He doesn't seem like the type to avoid responsibility!"
Elara sighed. "Who knows? After I told him about the baby, he locked himself away and hasn't come out since. Maybe he doesn't like kids? Lysander's never been one for socializing."
She continued, "He usually avoids getting too close to others, except me. Maybe it was too sudden for him to accept the idea of having a child Some people don't like kids. I used to think he did, though!"
Ursa shook her head, starting to sound a bit critical. "How can he be like this? Not even liking his child? And acting so cold? That's irresponsible!"
Elara tried to brush it off. "It's fine. If he doesn't want to go tomorrow, we'll go ourselves."
Just then, Lysander came down the stairs.
Hearing their conversation, he rushed over. "I'll go! I'm definitely going tomorrow!"
His sudden appearance and the urgency in his voice made Ursa stand up.
Lysander walked up to Elara, his eyes scanning her. "Are you really pregnant?"
Elara stared at him, confused. "Didn't you already know?"
"I didn't know!" Lysander sat down. "Are you really pregnant? So the thing you wanted to tell me was about the baby?"
Elara said, "Yes! Didn't Crispin already tell you?"
Lysander thought of Crispin and mentally took note of him. If it wasn't for that idiot bringing up Asher, he wouldn't have started overthinking things.
He looked at Elara again. "I didn't know you were pregnant. Crispin just called me about it."
Elara said, "When I told you at the hotel, you said you already knew."
Lysander felt a bit frustrated. "I thought when you said there was someone important, you meant Asher."
Elara was confused. "Asher? Why?"
"I heard that Asher came to your house this morning."
"He did. He even brought me a wedding gift, but I didn't accept it. I had Ursa return it! Why would you think of him?"
"Crispin said so! He said Asher came to see you this morning and that you must have fallen for him!"
"Is he out of his mind?" Elara stared at Lysander. "And you refused to talk to me all this time just because of that?"
Lysander was speechless. He couldn't believe how ridiculous he had been.
Elara looked at him and couldn't help but laugh. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
said that
She leaned against Lysander's shoulder. "And then, when you came back, you suddenly you wouldn't divorce me... just because of this?"
Lysander felt too embarrassed to look at her. He realized how foolish he had been.
Elara smiled. "Next time, why don't you just ask me directly?"
Lysander looked at her seriously. "I was really worried. I was so upset about it, my chest actually hurt!"
"Serves you right for being so silly!" Elara teased, her gaze soft as she looked at him.
She added, "Congratulations! You're going to be a dad! I'm jealous of you. Marrying someone like me and soon becoming a dad, you're definitely a winner in life." She exaggerated, and Lysander's gaze fixed on her lips.
He leaned in and kissed her gently, his voice soft. "Yes! I'm very lucky."
His sudden seriousness caught Elara off guard.
She looked at him helplessly. "I was just joking! Why are you taking it so seriously?"
"I'm serious," Lysander replied, his tone unwavering.

The next day, Lysander accompanied Elara to the hospital for a check-up.
After confirming the baby's health, Elara shared the news with her family.
She and Lysander hadn't gone on a honeymoon. Due to her pregnancy, Elara didn't feel like going out much and stayed home for a few days.
Once Lysander's holiday ended, he went back to work.
Elara also returned to the law firm.
The second trial for Silas resulted in his death sentence being commuted to life imprisonment.
Before the court session, Elara had stayed up for two consecutive nights, unable to sleep,
Once the case concluded, Mandy came to the law firm to thank her personally.
After sending her off, Elara returned to her office, where Evelyn was waiting. "Feeling happy?" she asked.
""Yes," Elara responded.
Evelyn studied Elara and smiled. "Good to hear! By the way, I'm thinking of moving you to a new office!"
"What's going on? Are you kicking me out?" Elara joked.
Evelyn said, "Mr. Foster's office has become available since he left! You can move into it. You're ready to take on your own cases now, and this office is too small for you." When Elara was an apprentice, she had worked in Evelyn's office.
Now, Evelyn wanted to move her into a larger one.
Elara smiled. "I've gotten used to this one!"
"Well, let's move you later. I've been your mentor for so long, but now I think it's time to let you go," Evelyn said with a laugh.
""What?" Elara looked at her, surprised.
Evelyn chuckled. "I can't treat you as my apprentice anymore! I can't control you now."
"You'll always be my mentor." Elara smiled.
She suddenly remembered something. "By the way, Felicity said she's making dinner tonight and wants you to come home. She's prepared some delicious food for you!" Since Elara's pregnancy, the family had been taking extra care of her, worried she might not eat properly.
She had never realized how fragile they seemed to think she was
When Elara got home, she found Felicity and Aubrey already there. Felicity smiled when she saw Elara. "You're back?"
