The tension hung heavy in the air, causing Nelly to feel a sense of unease. She had no idea how to respond to the suddenly awkward atmosphere that enveloped the room.
Taking note of the situation and sensing that Zachary might be upset, Alpha Wade swiftly stepped in. “Come on, Alpha King Larry. Let’s step outside for a chat.” He tilted his head, motioning for the other alpha to follow him.
With a deep understanding of their long and complicated history, Alpha King Larry knew exactly what his counterpart had in mind. Casting a glance at Zachary, his mouth formed a pout as he reluctantly agreed, “Yeah, fine.”
As they made their way out, Alpha King Larry turned to Alpha Kilian and instructed, “You, stay here and take care of Nelly.”
Alpha Kilian nodded in acknowledgment, while Nelly stood speechless, unable to believe what was happening.
Did they plan this? It certainly seemed that way.
Left in the room were Nelly, Zachary, the two children, and Alpha Kilian. The atmosphere remained tense, each person feeling the weight of the situation.
Trying to diffuse the tension, Nelly told the children, “Go and do your homework.”
Ben and Donna obediently nodded, responding with a simple, “Okay.” They left the room, leaving Nelly, Zachary, and Alpha Kilian alone.
Alpha Kilian approached the children, offering his guidance. “I’ll help guide you along.”
Donna’s face lit up with a smile, but she quickly suppressed it when she noticed the way Nelly was looking at her. “Thank you, Mr. Handsome.”
“Don’t mention it,” Alpha Kilian replied, a mischievous smile playing on his lips as he glanced at Nelly, silently provoking her.
Rolling her eyes at his childish behavior, Nelly couldn’t help but notice how Zachary was acting as though he was unaware of the tension. He addressed her, asking, “Would you like to have some fruits?”
Nelly was about to decline when Zachary picked up an orange. “Donna told me that oranges are your favorites.”
Nelly made no denial, taking the orange from him and inspecting it before taking a bite. “Thank you,” she said with a mouthful.
Zachary smiled, peeling more slices for her. The two of them engaged in light conversation while Nelly enjoyed the oranges.
Observing from the side, Alpha Kilian’s eyes seemed to shimmer with colorful emotions as a cold smirk adorned his face. Donna noticed this subtle display and finally understood why there needed to be two evenly matched men in television dramas. Perhaps a little drama is not such a bad thing after all, she thought. However, she couldn’t bear to see Alpha Kilian at a disadvantage, so she decided to assist him. “I’m thirsty, Mr. Handsome,” Donna said, catching Alpha Kilian’s attention.
He looked at her with a curled lip, amusement dancing in his eyes. “Hang on. Let me go get some water for you.” Alpha Kilian got up and headed towards Zachary and Nelly.
In the midst of their conversation, Alpha Kilian casually poured water into a glass, pretending not to notice Nelly and Zachary. Once finished, he turned around to see the two of them enjoying themselves. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he splashed the water onto Zachary’s shirt.
Zachary quickly straightened himself, maintaining his good-humored demeanor. “Oh, I’m terribly sorry, Mr. Lucas. I didn’t mean to do that,” Alpha Kilian said, unable to hide his delight.
Nelly rolled her eyes, sensing his intention and not buying his apology. As she handed Zachary some tissues, she asked, “Are you alright?”
Shaking his head, Zachary replied, “I’m okay.”
Turning to Alpha Kilian, Nelly saw through his charade. “Surely you aren’t mad, are you, Mr. Lucas?” he asked Zachary, a cunning glint in his eyes.
Zachary looked back at him with a gentlemanly smile. “No big deal. It’s just a shirt.”
Alpha Kilian nodded. “That’s good to know, but your shirt’s all soaked through. Looks like you might have to head home to get changed, Mr. Lucas.”
The meaning behind Alpha Kilian’s words was apparent to everyone. Casting a final look at him, Zachary turned to Nelly. “It’s getting rather late, so I should get going. Have a good rest, Nelly. I’ll come by again tomorrow.”
Nelly nodded. “Alright, then. Take care.”
Zachary nodded in return before exiting the room, closing the door behind him. Alpha Kilian smirked, believing he had achieved an easy victory.
However, Nelly locked eyes with him. “Is there a point to this, Alpha Kilian?” she sneered, clearly unimpressed by his antics.
Caught off guard, Alpha Kilian feigned innocence. “What?” he asked, trying to appear nonchalant.
Nelly scoffed. “You have quite the talent for acting, Alpha Morris. Maybe you should consider a career in it if your business ever fails.”
Alpha Kilian’s lips curled up in response. “It takes one to know another,” he quipped.
Ignoring him, Nelly laid her head down to rest, shutting out any more of his antics.
Meanwhile, outside the room, Alpha Wade and Alpha King Larry found a spot to sit face to face. Alpha Wade struggled with how to approach the topic since it wasn’t his place to bring it up.
“Hey, Alpha Wade. Don’t tell me those two kids belong to Nelly?” Alpha King Larry asked, a mixture of confusion and agitation in his voice.
“Of course they do!” Alpha Wade replied.
“No, what I mean is, are they the children of Nelly and my grandson?” Alpha King Larry pressed, hoping for a different answer.
Alpha Wade’s silence spoke volumes, confirming Alpha King Larry’s suspicions.
“Really? Is that true?” Alpha King Larry asked anxiously.
“Absolutely not! Those two children are from the Jackson family and have nothing to do with you, Morris!” Alpha Wade’s response was firm and resolute.
But this only fueled Alpha King Larry’s conviction that the children were his great-grandchildren.
Their striking features alone are proof enough.
