Chapter 278
Chapter 278
Gwendolyn whispered, “What if I don’t go?”
“You can try,” he replied, his threat laced with a seductive edge as he turned and strode away.
Gwendolyn took several deep breaths to steady herself. His retreating figure loorned large in her mind, accompanied by the dirty words Sandra had shared with her.
At 8 a.m., Gwendolyn returned to work, her leave officially over.
The office was abuzz with rumors of her resignation, and colleagues sought confirmation. Gwendolyn was noncommittal, merely stating she was considering her options.
Her eyes sharp, Gwendolyn spotted Sandra yawning her way through the crowd, just making it on time for work, and called out to her “Sandra, I brought you breakfast. Marina’s homemade muffins–last time you said you loved them.” Gwendolyn handed over the glass
thermos
Sandra yawned again, her eyes brimming with tears, dark circles under them.
Out of curiosity, Gwendolyn asked, “What were you up to last night?”
“Don’t even start. I had a ‘dog‘ on my tail all night.”
Sandra had thought she’d met a charming, well–mannered hunk. But once he crossed her threshold, he turned into a wild beast.
She ended up staring at the ceiling, just spinning around.
Felt like a tiny boat adrift at sea, bobbing aimlessly. In the wee hours, she tried to crawl away in tears, only to have the ‘wild dog‘ snag her by the ankle for another round.
She felt drained by a male siren.
It was only at the crack of dawn that she managed to fall asleep, nearly late for work
Exhausted, but admittedly thrilled. She had a taste now, and hungered for more.
“When did you
u start keeping a dog?” Gwendolyn asked.
“Just last night” Sandra said, rubbing her sore back and tuming to Gwendolyn. “How about you? Did he touch you last night?”
“Nope.”
“You sure? Last night, Howard was all fired up, marking his territory, then he carried you off. I saw him smack your bottom, thought you be bedridden today. Is he all show and no go?”
Sandra nudged Gwendolyn’s shoulder suggestively.
“I was drunk, he wouldn’t touch me.”
“You believe that man’s sweet nothings? Who knows how much he struggled with himself. If he didn’t take advantage, it’s because he respects you.”
Sandra nodded knowingly
Gwendolyn felt a surge of elation.
If Howard said he hadn’t done any nude paintings of Selina, then he hadn’t. She remembered the last time Eve and Selina came to the cottage, with Selina sneaking down from upstairs. Those paintings must have been put there by her.
Sneaked in and then had Candy take them away in front of Gwendolyn
Crude tactics, yet effective. It left one feeling as disgusted as if swallowing a fly.
“Im going to check on Grandma first.” Gwendolyn handed the muffins to Sandra and headed towards the orthopedic ward.
She did a round of the ward without finding her grandmother. A patient from the next bed informed her, “A wealthy–looking couple came this morning and moved your grandma to a private room. They must be relatives of yours, right?”
Wealthy?
Gwendolyn’s mind raced to Magnolia. Was she still not giving up?
Lips pressed tightly together, Gwendolyn hurried towards the private ward.
“Dr. Quigley,” Magnolia emerged from a single room, devoid of her usual arrogance.
Gwendolyn ignored them and burst into the room, only relaxing when she saw her grandmother resting safely in bed.
“Gwennie. The kind folks from yesterday said they’d get me a better room. They brought all these things, and I…” Nicolette was visibly anxious. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.

“They ought to. Just rest, Grandma. I need to have a word with them outside.”
Gwendolyn turned to the Derrick couple, “My grandmother needs her rest. Please, step outside”
