Chapter 80

Christiana’s POV A Nightmare Unfolds

The day had already been too long. After the meeting with the gallery owners, all I wanted to do was go home, pour myself at glass of wine, and try to forget the mess swirling in my head. Alex’s calls still lingered in my mind, but I had buried them beneath a mountain of work, refusing to let my emotions control me.

I stepped out of my office building into the cool evening air. The streets were busy with people, as always, bodies moving, cars honking, the usual chaos of the city. My driver, Mark, was waiting in the black SUV at the curb, his usual smile greeting me as he held the door open.

“Long day, Mrs. Davis?” he asked, his tone light.

“Too long,” I replied, managing a small smile. I slid into the backseat, letting out a breath as I leaned back, trying to relax. The familiar hum of the engine was supposed to calm me, but something felt… off. There was a tension in the air, a stillness beneath the usual noise of the city.

Mark pulled away from the curb, merging into the traffic. I stared out the window, watching the city lights blur past, my thoughts still tangled in the events of the past few days. Alex. Work. The kids. Everything felt heavy, like I was carrying a weight I couldn’t shake.

But then, out of nowhere, I heard it.

Bang! Bang!

Gunshots.

My heart stopped. The sound was unmistakable, sharp and piercing through the noise of the city.

“Mark” I shot up in my seat, panic gripping my chest. “Did you hear that?”

His eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, his face pale. “Stay down, Mrs. Davis.”

Before I could process what was happening, the SUV screeched to a halt. My body jerked forward, and I grabbed the seat in front of me to steady myself. Outside, people were screaming, running in every direction. The air was filled with chaos… gunfire, shouting, the sound of footsteps pounding the pavement.

“What’s happening?” My voice trembled, fear clawing at my throat,

Mark looked back at me, his eyes wide. “Stay in the car,

Bang!

Another gunshot, this time closer. Too close.

Suddenly, the door was ripped open, and a man in all black yanked Mark out of the driver’s seat. My heart leaped into my throat as I watched him fall to the ground, a sickening thud echoing in my ears.

“Mark!” I screamed, but my voice was drowned out by the chaos around us.

Before I could move, another man appeared at my door, dressed head to toe in black, a mask covering his face. His eyes were cold, and the gun in his hand was pointed right at me.

Get out of the car,” he ordered, his voice low and menacing.

My body froze. Everything around me felt like it was moving in low motion, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t breathe.

“No.no, please!” I begged, my voice shaking as I tried to resist. But he was too strong, dragging me toward a black van parked nearby. People around us kept running, screaming, trying to get away from the gunfire, but no one stopped to help. No one even looked.

I tried to fight, tried to pull away, but his grip was iron. My heart raced, pounding in my ears so loudly I thought I might pass

The man didn’t respond. He shoved me toward the van, and before I could even scream, a cloth was pressed over my mouth. The pungent smell of chemicals filled my nose, and my vision started to blur. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

“No… please…

Everything was spinning. I tried to fight it, tried to stay awake, but the world was slipping away from me.

The last thing I saw before everything went black was the cold, empty eyes of the man who had taken me.

When I woke up, my head was throbbing. My hands were tied, the rough rope biting into my wrists. The room was a bit dark, the air cold and damp. Panic surged through me as I realized I was lying on a hard concrete floor.

I struggled against the ropes, my breaths coming in short, frantic gasps. Where was I? What did they want?

“Help!” I screamed, my voice echoing off the walls. But there was no answer. Only silence.

Tears streamed down my face as the fear took hold. I had no idea who had taken me, no idea what they wanted. But one thing was clear, I was in serious danger, and no one knew where I was.

“Please,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “Someone… help me.”

But all I heard was the sound of my own sobs, echoing in the darkness.

My chest heaved as I struggled to control my breathing, every gasp scraping against the silence. My mind was racing. The kids. The thought hit me like a punch to the gut. Emma and Ethan, how would they know where I was? What if I didn’t come back? Tears stung my eyes as images of their innocent faces flashed in my mind. I had kissed them goodbye this morning. promising I’d be back for dinner. But now… I didn’t know if I’d ever see them again.

I blinked through the tears, trying to stay focused, trying not to let the panic consume me. But then, another name crept into my thoughts. Alex. Would he even know? After everything that had happened between us, would he come looking for me? The idea of him searching for me, his face twisted in worry, filled my chest with both fear and strange comfort.

But why? Why was this happening? My mind raced through possibilities. Was it because of my work? A rival? Or was it something darker, something personal? Who could hate me enough to do this?

I pulled against the ropes again, my

wrists burning, my heart pounding. Someone had planned this. But why? And who?
