Chapter 66
HOLIDAY
Rita’s POV
Been waiting for the day Finn and I will get back together and now that we’re at it, I’m rejecting him for a flimsy but a good reason.
My heart was confused as several thought ran through my head then I ended up blaming myself for rebuking Finn by suggesting to keep up with an aloofness between us.
Meanwhile, It was really difficult to get him off my head especially after our eye gesture during the lunch hours.
Hold on a minute! I thought I was beginning to get over Finn! Oops! My heart betrayed me.
“We won’t walk to the bus stop together you know..” Evelyn announced again while we’re packing our things during the closing hours.
“Uh! I know! I know alright? You already said you were gonna spend the holiday at your boyfriend’s place!!” I jealously barked at Evelyn and she laughed out loud.
“Oh Sorry” She mocked.
Finn walked in just when we were about to walk out of the office.
“Err… Hi” He said.
“Hello Finn, Happy Workers holiday” Evelyn said while I was still acting weird because of Finn’s unexpected presence.
“Wish you the same Evelyn” Finn responded.
“You’re coming to Adam’s surprise birthday party, aren’t you?” Evelyn uttered discreetly.
“Of course, I will be there. I got the invitation” He replied.
I stood in between them awkwardly, my heart was racing like it could literally jump out of my chest. I couldn’t interfere instead, I allowed Finn and Evelyn communicate.
“You’re heading home right?” Finn faced me now.
“Uhn?” I pretended not to hear him right yet I answered his question. “Yeah, home” I said.
“Can I drop you off? Uhm… like I used to. I’m not exceeding the boundary, am I?” He asked.
I knew he wanted us to talk at length and connect again.
“Err….” I stuttered.
Evelyn folded her arms, watching the drama we’re displaying in front of her. Until her boyfriend came over, so they could leave together.
“Bye” She waved and scurried towards Adam, almost leaving Finn and I alone.
I felt somewhat shy and this doesn’t have to do with us tryna reconnect. My heart was acting really funny.
“Evelyn! Adam! Wait up!” I called their names.
“Finn, could you please offer my friends and I a lift in your car instead?” I said, when I didn’t know how else to turn him down.
“That’s fine by me” He agreed without hesitating.
“Really?” Evelyn exclaimed while Adam didn’t look too joyful about it.
“I’ve always wanted a ride in your luxurious car” Evelyn said enthusiastically then childied herself once she realised that she was being too dramatic.
“Adam and I are headed the same way. Drop us off at his place then further your drive with Rita” She said.
“A CEO becomes a cab driver, I guess” Finn stated and I giggled a little.
“I’m doing this for you” He whispered to me and I blushed secretly.
“Sorry” I mumbled.
“No, it’s totally fine. Come on!” He motioned us, leading the way.

I barely said anything but Evelyn and Adam had their lovey dovey conversation at the back seat while Finn and I sat down there acknowledging a knowing silence and I stole several glances at him through the rear mirror.
Soon, Adam and Evelyn alighted at the nearest junction and he drove me to my place quietly but definitely, it won’t continue that way maybe we couldn’t communicate because of Adam and Evelyn’s presence.
Finn cleared his throat awkwardly, breaking the silence.
“So how do you intend to spend the holiday?” He started the conversation.
“Uhm, I cannot say yet but one thing I’m certain of is that I am going nowhere” I gave a short laugh, lying to myself that I was comfortable around him.
I don’t know if Finn felt the same way I’m feeling. I think he is still in love with me and I also think he doesn’t like me anymore. I wanted to ask him and clarify it once and for all.
“Two days break from work is meant for you to relax and enjoy yourself” Finn said.
“Well, Adam’s birthday is right after the holiday, so merriment till then” I said and he chuckled.
“You turned me down even before I asked you to come with me to a cinema” He said.
“A date again Finn! C’mon watch it!” I said. “We are not going out”Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
Finn’s smile faded slightly; “I don’t know if we’re just friends or if there’s something more” He said.
“I’ve been trying to figure that out too” I murmured avoiding eye contact with him when he looked up to me, his eyes searching for mine.
“I can’t help but wonder if there’s still a chance for us.” Finn added.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. After all this while, Finn still had feelings for me.
He drove with one hand and took my hand in his but I released it immediately.
“There’s no chance for us Finn. You have a girlfriend” He wanted to say something but I cut him off. ” I’m very very glad we are back together again as friends, maybe close friends that have mutual feelings. You don’t know how tough it was for me when we weren’t talking” I indirectly admitted that I liked him.
“I’m sorry” He apologised.
“It’s bygones now” I said.
He pulled up in front of my house. He leaned closer to help me to unlock the door and every single hair on my skin stood as his hand grazed mine.
When I stepped out of the car, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions swirling inside me. Part of me was relieved that Finn had finally confessed his lingering feelings, but another part of me was frustrated by the timing of it all. Why now, when he was already in a committed relationship?
“Happy Workers’ day off ” He waved.
“Happy Workers day off” I said the same.
“So… see you during the weekend at Adam’s party”
“Yeah, see you then” I said.
I was waiting for him to drive away but he didn’t.
“You’re not leaving?”
” I wanna watch you go in” He said.
I smiled: ” Oh..” I scurried towards the door. He started his engine too.
