Chapter 484
Casper knew exactly what was at stake.
His biggest worry now was whether this condition was treatable. "If there's an issue with the retina, could she actually go blind?"
"If it involves the cornea, then the only solution is a transplant."
Casper's face turned deadly serious as he stared deeply into the emergency room. He couldn't help but feel a wave of guilt wash over him. If he hadn't rushed into getting engaged to Susan, none of this would've happened. The pain Eliza was going through was entirely his fault. And Susan, the real culprit behind all this, needed to face the consequences.
"Let's start with treatment. If that doesn't work, we'll go for the transplant. We've got a donor lined up."
Caleb looked a bit shocked. "Bro, you're planning to donate your cornea to her?"
"It won't come to that. We have someone else who'll donate," Casper said, his dark eyes blazing with determination. "And don't let your sister-in-law find out about this."
"Got it."
Caleb scratched his head, wondering how Casper had found a donor so easily. But knowing Casper's resources, it wasn't too surprising.
After they left the emergency room, the doctor told Eliza that her eyes had indeed suffered due to the drug Susan had used, resulting in a disease. To keep her from panicking, they assured her that her blindness was temporary and she'd recover in a couple of weeks. Eliza didn't worry too much about it, but not being able to see made life incredibly tough. She wasn't used to Casper taking such hands-on care of her. Especially when it came to going to the bathroom; she preferred a nurse to help. When there wasn't a nurse around, she tried to manage on her own.
After a few nasty falls, Casper blew up at the nurses, and a few even got fired because of it. Eliza felt awful and was cold towards Casper.
"Do you realize that now even fewer nurses will want to help me?" she said, unable to see and feeling utterly helpless. "It's like you're making things worse for me on purpose."
"They were helping you, yet you still ended up like this?" He hated seeing her suffer but didn't want to make her angrier, so he kept his temper in check. "From now on, if you need to use the bathroom, just tell me. I can help you."NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
"You're a man, and I'm a woman. Do you really think that's appropriate?" Eliza snapped.
"What's so inappropriate about it? Haven't I seen everything already? We've been
her modtimate!" He thought
her modesty was misplaced. He had taken time off work just to care for her. It's just about pulling down and putting up pants. I can handle that."
Seriously, what a thing to say.
Was that something to casually be seen by anyone?
"Anyway, I'm not comfortable with it." She needed a female caregiver for these things. "Can you hire someone for me?"
"No caregivers, but you've got a husband," he said, flat-out refusing her reasonable request. He wasn't going to let anyone else take care of her when he could. "In a bit, I'll help you with a bath, and then you can rest."
"Casper!!!"
Did he really have to push it?
She was seriously uncomfortable with a man seeing her naked.
"If you insist on helping, then I'd rather not bathe."
"Would you rather stay dirty?" He understood her discomfort but reminded her they had once been so close. "Elle, I'm not a stranger. Why are you making this so hard? Just trust me."
"No," she clung to herself tightly, her vacant eyes filled with defiance. "Casper, don't take advantage of me when I'm vulnerable. I'll lose respect for you." "What are you saying? How is this taking advantage of you? It's just a bath. You're acting like it's some sort of punishment."
He decisively scooped her up.
Amid her screams, he carried her towards the bathroom.
