His Retribution (Complete His Series) Chapter 9

After breakfast, Azalea and Lily took the rogue children and two of the adult females, along with Felix, out to the yard. The packhouse was slowly emptying as pups headed to school, warriors to training, and others to the various duties. The other female and the male that spoke with us last night, Graham, came with Damien and me to my office.
“I hope you were able to sleep well last night,” I said as we all took a seat in my office. Damien stood behind me.
“Yes, thank you very much, Alpha. The food was delicious, and the children were so happy to be sleeping in beds again,” said Graham. “We can’t thank you and your Luna enough for the kindness.”
“Last night, you told us that your pack was destroyed. Would you mind telling us about that?” I asked.
Graham nodded. “We come from New Horizon Pack along the eastern coast. We are a small pack, but we lived a good life. Our Alpha had strong relationships with the surrounding packs, and we had no issues with any of them. We very rarely came across rogues with our small pack land.”
“Our Alpha took care of our pack well, but we only had a small number of warriors to protect us,” the female said.
“Yes. It happened out of nowhere. A man arrived in our pack demanding an audience with our Alpha. Although it was strange, our Alpha granted him an audience. But shortly after they went to the Alpha’s office to meet, the stranger emerged from the packhouse holding our Luna up by her throat and holding our Alpha’s head in his other hand,” Graham said solemnly.
“It was awful. Our Luna’s screams brought everyone out of their homes to find out what was happening. Once a large portion of our pack was assembled, he ripped out our Luna’s throat and went on a killing spree. Everyone panicked and ran away,” the female said.
Graham nodded. “We were able to get out, but my brother went back to try and stop the man. We got a safe distance away and tried to watch for any signs of what was happening. A few hours later, there was lots of smoke coming from the area. I snuck back to check only to see our packhouse and several other houses burning. There were bloody bodies scattered everywhere…”
“I am so sorry to hear that,” I told them. One wolf did all of this? “Did you ever get a good look at the wolf who did this?”
Graham and the female shook their heads. “No, we didn’t. He wore a hood over his head that concealed his face. But I don’t think this was a wolf. The way he moved, it was like nothing I had ever seen before…” Graham said.
“If it wasn’t a wolf, then what?” I linked Damien.
“Vampire? Fae?” he suggested.
“But why would either group attack a small peaceful pack?” I proffered. Damien gave me no response.
“Did you say that your pack was on the eastern coast?” I asked.
“Yes,” the female said. “We have been traveling for weeks now. We have been turned away by 4 other packs before we found your pack lands.” This was why we were unaware of any attacks of this nature. We were far closer to the continent’s western coast than eastern one. These folks had traveled fast and far to come all this way.
“You said others escaped as well?”
“We believe so, yes. Many people ran in all different directions. I can’t be sure where any of them went or if the man did not come after them after they fled, sadly,” Graham said.
“As I am sure you know, these are very unusual circumstances. With your pack having been so far away from here, we have no real connections to have known about these events. We don’t usually have rogues approach our borders in this manner,” I said carefully. “My Beta and I would like to look into this. I would like to trust the things you are telling us, but for the safety of my pack, we need to try and verify your claims.” I handed Graham a piece of paper and a pen. “If you could, please write down the names and ages of all the members of your group as well as your former Alpha and Luna.”
Graham took the paper and began writing down the information we asked for. If there was someone destroying werewolf packs, I wanted to know about it and I wanted to know where they were headed. Our pack was large so a single person could not come in and destroy us in the same manner that their pack had been destroyed but I would like to be prepared nonetheless.
When he finished, I took back the paper. Graham had given us birthdates as well as relations of all the members of his group. He also gave us a lot of information about his previous pack. “I was the Gamma of our pack. I may look like a decent-sized wolf, but I am no fighter. When everything happened, I was helping to construct a new home for one of our pack members. I wasn’t anywhere near the packhouse to help my Alpha…” he said sadly.
“We are sorry for your loss,” I said. “I am going to look into this. For now, I invite you all to stay here as our guests. After school, there will be plenty of pups around for yours to play with. You should rest and recover. If anyone is unwell, we have a clinic you can be cared for at. My Beta can take you back down to find the rest of your group. Please let us know if you need anything,” I told them.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Thank you Alpha,” Graham said with a small bow of his head. The female also bowed. They stood up and exited the office. Damien followed them.
“You should get Langston on the phone and see what he found out about his,” Damien linked me as he left the office.
“You read my mind,” I replied.

“What is this place, V?” I questioned. We had driven for a while into the woods on an abandoned road. Then, he stopped the car and got out, telling me to follow him. Ten minutes of trudging through the foilage and here we are standing in front of a weirdly nice cottage in the middle of the woods.
“I don’t know honestly. I found it the other day. Come on, check it out,” he said. He went straight to the front door and threw it open.
“Maybe we shouldn’t!” I called. “What if it belongs to someone?”
He just waved at me to follow him and disappeared inside. I hesitated for a minute. This place seemed off. The outside was worn and old but not rotting or broken. It looked like it had been loved at some point, but it was really out here. Who owned this? They had to have been a pack member because we were still in pack territory to my knowledge.
Reluctantly I followed V into the little dwelling. To my surprise, the inside was relatively clean. The main cabin was a cozy room with a fireplace and couches. There was a thin layer of dust clinging to the surfaces in the cottage and hanging in the air, but it was otherwise well kept. There were 2 doors off to the side as well as a small kitchen area in the corner. V popped his head out of one of the doorways, motioning for me to follow.
When I entered the room, I was surprised to see a roomy bedroom. The cabin didn’t look very large from the outside. There were blankets folded up on the queen-sized bed as well as a stack of pillows. There was also a tall wardrobe to the side of the room and a large window letting natural light illuminate the room. It was quite charming. “V, what is this place?” I asked turning to him.
“I found it. But no one has been here. It’s just abandoned, ” he said.
“It looks taken care of. It doesn’t seem like it has been vacant for long,” I commented, looking around. There wasn’t much in the way of decorations around, definitely no pictures. I looked at V who was just smiling. “What?” I asked.
“You’re allowed out to go for runs right?”
“Yea. But only a couple hours at a time. Why?” I asked him.
“Because now we have a place to run to. We were already found at the waterfall once. I bet the patrols don’t know about this place. We can see each other outside the packhouse if you just tell the Alpha and Luna you are going for a run,” he explained happily.
“I don’t know…” my voice trailed off. This was more than a white lie about going to school early. Plus, something felt wrong about this place. I looked around the room again, chewing my l*p nervously. V closed the distance between us, wrapping his arms around me gently holding me close.
“Do you want to keep hanging out at the pack house? I don’t mind. It’s just that you always say it is suffocating…” He coaxed. I pursed my lips.
“What if it belongs to someone?” I asked.
“We apologize and find somewhere else,” he said with a small shrug.
I looked into his light green eyes. Sighing, I nodded my head. His face lit up in a handsome grin.
