Chapter 359
Selena instantly got what he meant he was talking about her uncle and Ricky. She bit down hard on her lower lip, feeling a shiver run up her spine. Just when she thought his talk of treating them like family meant something, it was clear now: he was heartless. "Get out!" she yelled, grabbing a pillow and throwing it at him with all her might.
Everett didn't even flinch; he just walked away, unfazed.
Selena skipped breakfast, and when lunchtime rolled around, Ava came by to check on her, but Selena just turned over in bed, refusing to eat. Ava tried to coax her a bit, but seeing it was no use, she sighed and left.
Derick, lugging a stack of papers, ran into Ava in the hallway. Spotting her worried look, he couldn't help but ask, "Everything okay?"
"The Mrs. and the Mr. had a spat," Ava replied, "and now she's all down and refusing to eat. I don't know how she's gonna manage, especially after all that last night."
Ava spoke her mind bluntly, having been around long enough to know the ropes, while Derick, being young and caught up in work, hadn't even had a girlfriend in years, blushing at her straightforwardness. Normally, Ava would've teased him about getting a girlfriend, but she wasn't in the mood this time. She thought for a moment and said, "Derick, she seems to like you well enough. Maybe you could talk to her?"
Though Derick was Mr. Everett's assistant, Ava had noticed he wasn't just a yes-man; he had his principles.
"Alright... I'll give it a shot."
After dropping off the documents and finishing his report, Derick left the study, hesitated for a moment, then headed to the master bedroom and knocked.
No response.
He raised his voice slightly, "Mrs., it's Derick. Can we talk for a bit?"NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
After waiting a moment with still no reply, just as he was about to turn away, the door opened behind him.
He paused and looked at her.
Selena's eyes were red, a clear sign
she'd been crying, but her
expression was calm. She had on a

But there was a dark purple bruise peeking from her neck, trailing down under her clothes. Not wanting to stare, he quickly shifted his gaze. Considering it was Mr. Everett and Selena's bedroom, it wasn't right for him to enter, so they moved to the small living room upstairs. "Please, sit down," she said.
Derick sat across from her, choosing
his words carefully. "Mrs., Mr. Everett is more likely to respond.if you take a softer approach. If you could just make peace with him, it might make things easier."
At least then, she wouldn't have her gadgets confiscated, be cut off from the outside world, or be stuck here, unable to leave.
Selena thought he had something
worthwhile to say, but this was just disappointing. She smirked coldly, "So I should just give in, be his caged bird, have no say in anything, and accept his affairs? Now it's one woman, next it might be two or three... You really think that's a good way to live?"
Derick was at a loss for words, unable to persuade her further.
Mr. Everett was supposed to have ended things with Margot, but for some reason, he hadn't, leaving Derick without much ground to defend him.
"Derick, I can't do it. I'd rather break than bend. One day, I might just stab him in his sleep."
"Mrs., please... don't think like that..." Derick was taken aback.
Selena calmly cut him off, "So, Derick, whether you're worried about Mr. Everett or feeling sorry for me, I need a favor."
Without thinking, Derick asked, "What do you need?"
"Help me get some birth control pills!"
