Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 37

Everett glanced down, his face unreadable, and cast a fleeting look at her before turning to walk away.

Selena's eyes widened in surprise, and she quickly grabbed his sleeve. "Hold on, what's that supposed to mean? Are you trying to bail on me?"

If he dared to backtrack, she was ready to give him a piece of her mind right then and there.

Everett sneered. "You want to hash this out here? Are you worried others might miss the show?"

Only then did Selena notice the occasional passerby in the hallway, not to mention the entire Bennett family gathered in the hospital room. Yeah, this wasn't the place for a showdown. She swallowed her irritation and forced a smile. "Alright, let's find somewhere else."

She had planned to duck into a nearby café, wrap things up quickly, and leave. But as soon as they stepped out of the hospital, Derick was already parked out front, waiting.

He opened the back door, and Everett slid in without a moment's pause.

Selena bit her lower lip and was reluctant. Spending another second with him was suffocating!

"Is it just a phone call you need, Mr. Everett? Or do you also require a special ceremony?" she jibed sarcastically.

Everett, unfazed, said coolly, "Get in the car or don't. It's up to you. But I should remind you, I have a meeting in an hour, and I'm not hanging around here."

He tapped his wristwatch with his slender fingers. "You've got ten seconds to make up your mind."

Selena clenched her fists.

Of course, he was a cold-blooded capitalist, a negotiation pro. Now that she needed something, she was at his mercy. Reluctantly, she climbed into the car. The car pulled away and joined the flow of traffic.

Selena couldn't hold back any longer. "Can you make the call now?"

Everett glanced at her with his dark eyes. "Have you apologized to Rebecca yet?"

Selena was caught off guard but quickly recovered. "Well, with Grandpa being sick, I didn't get the chance."

"Is it that you didn't get the chance, or you never planned to?" His eyes seemed to see right through her. "Selena, you can't even be a decent Mrs. Bennett, what makes you think you can demand anything from me?"

Selena was in disbelief.

Wow, he almost had her convinced with that logic.

She argued back, "At least I played my part in front of Grandpa. Everett, you can't be such an unreasonable person."

"A person?" Everett's eyes grew colder. "Wasn't I just a no-good mutt to you? Now I qualify as a person?"

"How do you know?" Selena blurted out, then clamped her hand over her mouth, staring at him in panic.

"Last night, you were talking in your sleep," Everett said, his tone flat.

The previous night, as he was dozing on the small sofa, he heard Selena muttering. Leaning in, he caught her murmuring his name.

He didn't understand why, in her sleep, she

But then he heard her bitterly add three words - "no-good mutt."

Selena never imagined her inner thoughts would slip into her dreams. She was cursing him, and he heard it.

No wonder he looked at her this morning like she'd committed a grave offense.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Selena sighed, "Okay, that's on me. I should've kept one eye open while sleeping."

At this, Derick couldn't hold back a chuckle.

Everett's face darkened. One sharp glare at Derick made him shrink back, immediately go silent, and pretend to be invisible again.

Without them realizing it, the car had arrived at the underground parking of Bennett Corporation. As soon as it stopped, Everett didn't even glance at her before stepping out.
