Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 76

Selena couldn't believe her ears.

Everett had once again found himself caught up with Margot, drawing everyone's attention.

So, the woman who had always been the elusive dream in Callum's heart, the one everyone was dying to know about, turned out to be Margot.

Selena's mind was racing. She couldn't wrap her head around the kind of spell Margot cast that had Everett wrapped around her finger. Even a stand-up guy like Callum couldn't get her out of his mind. Clearly, Selena had underestimated Margot's charm.

At that moment, Selena's perfect image of Callum started to crumble. It turned out that nobody was flawless. Dr. Campbell was almost perfect-except for his lousy taste in women.

She couldn't bring herself to praise Margot, so she just offered, "Dr. Campbell, if she didn't choose you, it's her loss."

But Callum, for once, pushed back, seriously correcting her. "She's a wonderful person."

Well, that conversation was going nowhere fast.

Earlier, Everett had taken off to answer a call from Margot, and now Callum was defending her. Selena was left speechless by these back-to-back surprises.

Luckily, a nurse called for Callum to head to surgery, so he didn't linger. He just gave her a few reminders and hung up.

As soon as Selena put down her phone, she saw Everett stroll back in, having swapped out his shirt and trousers for some comfy loungewear.

She was a bit taken aback; she figured once he got that call, he'd be off to Margot's side, just like always. He's like a loyal dog, eagerly responding to Margot's every beck and call. But now, it seemed he was planning to stick around. This was definitely a first.

Her calm heart couldn't help but flutter just a bit.

His hair was casually brushed back, softer than his usual slicked-back style. He wore a white sweater, and sunlight filtered in behind him, making him exude a peaceful vibe.

He glanced at the half-eaten, now-cold bowl of oatmeal and frowned. "Who were you talking to that you forgot to eat?"

She was the one who claimed to be hungry, yet there she was, not eating!

Selena missed the undercurrent in his voice, finding his question amusing. Annoyed, she shot back, "I

don't ask who you call, so it's none I

of your business who I talk to, right?"

Everett truly couldn't fathom how her moods could shift so rapidly. He didn't want to rile her up in her unwell state, so he calmly asked, "What's up now?"

"Nothing, I'm just going to sleep," Selena replied, too drained to say more. If he really cared, he wouldn't take Margot's calls right in front of her. He didn't even bother with pretense, so why should she?

She lay down, pulled the blanket over herself, and turned her back to him, a clear sign for him to leave.

Everett's handsome face darkened completely. What was up with this attitude?Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

If he didn't firmly dismiss superstitions, he might have thought she was possessed.

He stood there for a bit before stiffly saying, "You know what's happening in three days, don't you?"

Selena's thick lashes fluttered slightly, her eyes momentarily confused before she got it.

It was Cole's wedding; he is the grandson of Thomas, one of Josh's close friends. Since Josh couldn't be there, Everett had to make sure they went on his behalf. No wonder he'd been so attentive, cooking oatmeal and generously splashing cash to lift her spirits-it was all about making sure she'd recover in time for the event. Selena touched her chest, and the little ripples of hope in her heart settled back into still waters.

She put on her professional demeanor and replied, "I remember. Don't worry. I'll be in top form to accompany you to the wedding in three days!"

Everett's hands, hanging by his sides, clenched tightly. His lips moved, but in the end, he just coldly said, "You'd better not let me see you looking so sickly again!"
