Mr Grant, Please Be Gentle

Chapter 94 Let’s Rescind Your Order

Of course he wasn’t leaving her out to dry.

Matthew nodded. He’d put Blanca at his side to ward off courtiers, not to run errands for Alan.

Consider how much property there was under the Grant family, if they handed everything big and small over to Blanca to manage, there probably wouldn’t even be a strand of hair left at the end…

“Let’s rescind your order, Grandpa. I’ve already promised to let Blanca come into the office for work,” Matthew said, his face giving nothing away.

What?!

Come to the office to work?!

Blanca had been explaining meekly to the old man how she wasn’t fit to be that sort of manager and had been about to lower herself to the image of an illiterate country bumpkin when Matthew just up and tossed out that depth charge.

Since when had he agreed to let her go to the office and work?

What were the wages? Were there days off?

“Coming to the office to work? Matthew, how could you let Blanca go to the office?” Carrie was displeased again and couldn’t help but speak out.

She’d wanted to put Louise in that office instead, but then the old man had gone and said that girls should stay at home and learned their stuff – play the piano or tend the flowers or something. Carrie had been upset, of course. If her daughter was just being kept in the house to play the piano and tend flowers, how was she supposed to get into the Empire Group?

Or seduce a handsome, wealthy husband?

“Why not?”

Matthew’s simple words had Carrie speechless…

Blanca still hadn’t recovered from the shock. She could really go in to work? In an office? The Empire Group. It was the Empire Group! The dream destination of so many college graduates!

Once upon a time, Blanca had wanted a decent job like this when she was in high school…

Sensing Carrie’s resistance, Blanca was afraid she’d mess things up. Matthew had agreed after all that!

“Carrie, I actually think it’s nice to go work in the office. I’ve only just gotten married to Matthew… The two of us… have to stick together, right? I’m getting bored cooped up at home, too. Do I really have to manage the family?”

Blanca’s dark eyes fluttered as she looked at Carrie expectantly.

That didn’t just shut Carrie up and express that she was going to the Empire Group because she couldn’t bear to part from Matthew, it was also a roundabout warning. Meaning that if she couldn’t go to the Empire Group, she was going to stay and fight over the family!

“Oh, that’s…”

“Mom, I think that it’s fine for Blanca to go to the office. She can get closer to Matthew that way, right?”

While Carrie was still hesitating, Louise had reacted and hurriedly tugged on Carrie’s arm, giving her a pointed look. Carrie stopped talking.

Carrie immediately went all smiles and beamed, stroking Blanca’s hand. “I see. It’s good for you to go to work, Blanca. I was just not considering things far enough. How about this? Go to the Empire Group and work, and let’s have Louise follow you. This way you can be companions.”

“…” Accompanied by Louise!?

How about she just keel over and die right here!

Blanca didn’t have the tears to shed right now. Seeing Carrie and Louise’s expectant gazes, she dug her nails into her palm and agreed.

So long as she could get in the office, she could do anything!
