Chapter 154
Avery’s pov
His words did not ease me one bit. Instead, it made my poor heart roar in my chest. I stumble out of Xade’s hold and plop on the sofa behind me completely stunned by everything.
What?” I breathed out and flick my eyes up to Xade’s father. “Secret hunters?”
The doctor had looked normal…..but Xade had looked normal to me for years too.
Xadeon nods and elaborates. ” Yes. They pose as doctors, scientists, policemen, researchers you name it. They are…human after all. They do this to capture supernatural beings. Since he has seen some bit of animal blood in you I am sure he was smart enough to put everything together.”
I swallowed, a shiver of fear running down my spine. If I hadn’t escaped that night….would I even be here today? Would I even be here with Xade?
How many chances has death played with us?
Xade snarls and sits beside me, one hand swooping under my knees while the other under my arms. In one move he had me on his lap. I don’t protest. In his arms I feel safe despite the events happening around us.
“You’re scaring her dad,” Xade barked and Xadeon let out a breath.
I know you’re protective of her Xade no matter how hard you try to cout she’s now in this world of ours her from it. You see what’s already happening, if we don’t act now things may get worse,” Xadeon grumbles and Eloise squeezes his arm.
“Your father is right Xade. I know things are happening so quickly one after the other, but to survive in this world Avery, you must adapt just as quickly,” she steps toward me and stops when she sees Xade hold me tighter as if she were the enemy.
Her gaze saddened. “I’m not your enemy Xade, neither is your father. I know you have just fully mated and you can’t control the protective nature of your beast but if you want to truly protect her from this, you should listen to us and trust us. We have never led you astray.”
“Mom’s right Xade,” Xaden grumbles. “If this has broadcasted so quickly and everywhere, this hunter must already have big links. We don’t know who we’re messing with.”
I drop my hand to Xade’s hand that was on my stomach, cupping it as if he were shielding it from the cruel world. ” Xade,” I whispered, rubbing soothing circles on his hand. If there were anyone I’d trust, it would be his parents.
“What do you suggest we do?” Xade aimed his question at his father.
Xadeon’s brows pinched in a way that let us all know he was thinking inwardly. “First we need to bring her somewhere safe. Since it has been broadcast everywhere, many will be on the lookout for her. Her face is on the news, a clear image, it will be only a matter of time before someone recognizes her.”
He was right. If I stay here someone will catch the sight of me sooner or later.
“We go back to the pack. Back home.” Xaden suggested, arms folding as he frowned.
Xadeon nods. ” Yes. It will also be good to have her mom close by too. I will have the beta and some wolves surround your home to keep her safe. Like Xaden mentioned, we don’t know who we are dealing with. It will be better if we take precautions right now.”
My heart hammers in my chest. ” What about school? What about-
Xadeon looks at me with an apologetic expression on his face. “We’ll talk to the headmaster to allow you to do everything online. I know you loved the campus experience but it’s now too risky at the moment, especially since you are pregnant and they have a bounty on your head.”
I swallowed hard and nod. As long as Xade was by my side I didn’t care what I had to risk.
Eloise’s gaze softened on me. Once we figure out who the hunter is and wipe out the threat, things will get easier. We are a family, we have always been and you know we will fight to protect you no matter what.”
“No matter what,” Xade whispered in my ear and kissed my cheek. I closed my eyes, sucking in a deep breath to calm down my nerves. When I reopen them, I am now determined to adapt to another change yet again.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
“When do we leave?” I questioned.
“As soon as possible,” Xadeon replied. ” That 30k will have people doing crazy things to get it. You’re a sitting goose the longer we stay here.”
