Chapter 55 Reasons to Stay in the Howard Family
Myles spoke with certainty, “Of course.”
Of course he wanted to help her, to see that she was doing well, otherwise he wouldn’t have decided to go back to work.
[Then don’t do anything.]
“Why?” Myles’ brow furrowed in disbelief.
[If I’m right, the text message was sent to you by Edith.]
Edith’s warning still echoed in her ears, if comparing the Howard family and the Mitchell family to a bucket of muddy water, she herself was already caught in it, and she couldn’t let Myles get involved.
“Edith?” Myles frowned, “Why would she do that?”
In high school, Edith was a grade below them, so Myles and her didn’t really have any interactions, he just knew that she was Lexie’s sister.
Lexie froze for a moment, a guess swept through her mind, she suspected that all this was done by Edith to get Myles to take her away, [I don’t know.].
“Lexie,” Myles gradually calmed down and advised bitterly, “no matter who sent the text messages, these are the facts. The Mitchell family is unkind to you, there’s no need for you to condemn yourself to stay in the Howard family for them.”
Lexie shook her head.
[I didn’t stay at the Howard family for them.]
“And who are you doing this for?”
Myles did not understand, grandma had been operated successfully and discharged from the hospital. As long as Lexie was willing to, she could completely take grandma away from this place.
Lexie hesitated for a moment and confessed to Myles.
[I want to find out how my mother died.]
Lexie said something about the Mitchell family’s winery.
Myles froze, “You suspect that Peter killed your mother?”
Lexie nodded.
After a long moment of silence, Myles eased down, “Is it true that you will leave Howard family after you find out about this matter?”

Myles looked serious, “Then I’ll check for you.”
Lexie frowned and looked at Myles seriously.
Myles was about to say something else, but Lexie looked down at his hand and gestured, [I’ll take you to the hospital.]
—
As dusk sets, the evening sun decorated the distant hills of J City with extra brilliance.
As soon as Edith came home, she was called to the study by Peter.
“Dad, you want to see me?”
Edith was in a good mood and entered with a smile on her face.
Peter, however, had a serious face and questioned, “Where did you go last weekend?”
“Last weekend?” Edith froze, “Went golfing with a friend, what’s up?”
“Who’s that you’re playing with?”
Edith froze for a moment, showing a panic look, and whispered, “My college classmate.”
“That’s Tina! Alan’s cousin, Lennox’s daughter,” Peter’s face was grim, “Lennox and Alan have always been at odds, and the Howard family’s internal situation is different from ours, it’s very complicated, you can’t handle it, so lessen your interactions with her.”
Edith was dissatisfied, “If I can’t handle it, can’t that mute Lexie handle it?”
Peter plucked up his voice, “Can you be the same as Lexie? I just need her to sit firmly in the position of Mrs. Howard, as long as she is still Mrs. Howard, our family will be able to do things by the name of the Howard family. As for how she lives in the Howard family, it depends on her own destiny.”
Edith couldn’t listen to Peter’s words at all, “Dad, but have you thought about it, she’s not even close to us, if she really sits in the position as Mrs. Howard, will she help us?”
Peter’s heart stuttered.
“There was the old lady holding back, but now that she is out of the hospital, if Lexie really captures Alan’s heart, will she still put us in her eyes?”
“…”
Edith’s words reminded Peter.
After she went out, those words echoed in Peter’s ears, and he suddenly remembered some of Lexie’s perverse actions during this period of time, and vaguely felt that something was wrong.
Lexie stayed in the Mitchell family for twenty years, and she never mentioned the previous things, how come she now she came back and suddenly mentioned ‘medicine prescriptions’ after a few days of her marriage?
Peter’s face grew sullen as he got up and walked around the sofa, pulling open a compartment of the cabinet and pulling out a brown medicine bottle from it, staring at it for a long moment with an unkind gaze.
A few moments later, he dialed out a call.
“John, come by tomorrow morning and deliver one thing out for me.”
“Send it to the Howard’s.”
At night, Lexie made tea for Alan and brought it into the study.
For some time now, Alan was used to drinking the tea she made and disliked Marry’s tea for being not smooth, so if there was nothing else, she would make tea and send it over at this time every day.
This was one of the few times in the day that she met with Alan.
Alan lifted his head, his gaze resting on the right side of her face, his brow frowning, “How’s your face feeling?”
Lexie subconsciously touched her cheek.
The redness had largely disappeared and the scabs of blood had fallen off where the nails had scratched her, leaving two light pink scars that stood out against her pale skin.
She shook her head.
[It is okay.]
Alan nodded, and uttered, “You’ll come with me to the summer resort tomorrow to my grandfather.”
Lexie froze for a moment and asked cautiously.
[Must we go?]
“What? You have something to do?” Alan looked up at her, “Tomorrow is the Howard family’s gathering dinner.”
Lexie was stunned.
Alan was taking her to the Howard family’s gathering dinner?
But Myles had asked her to meet tomorrow.
Facing Alan’s probing gaze, Lexie explained
[There’s nothing important, but I had agreed with my grandma to spend the weekend with her and make dumplings, it’s okay, I’ll tell her I’ll go another day.]
Looking at her uneasy look, Alan thought of the conflict between her and Tina, so he thought she did not want to be there because of Tina, “Since you’ve made an appointment with your grandma, no need to go with me then.”
Lexie froze for a moment, a look of dismay.
[Is it okay?]
Alan’s tone was cold, “Tomorrow is a family banquet, there are many people going, it is okay you don’t go, and you’re not that important.”
Hearing these words, Lexie then felt relieved and nodded silently.
She was indeed a dispensable person, or rather, it was more appropriate for her not to show up at the Howard family’s gathering dinner.
The next morning, the driver and assistant came to pick up Alan early in the morning.
There was a general meeting to be held in the morning, and after the meeting, he went straight to the summer resort.
Stanley rarely returned to J City, and he came to the summer resort during the two months of July and August every year, so the Howard family banquet was scheduled for this time.
“Mr. Alan,” Jack was standing in front of the car door waiting, and as soon as he saw Alan, he walked over with a delivery box, “A delivery person just came over and said it was Miss Mitchell’s delivery, so I just signed for it.”
Alan glanced at it, but glanced at the sender information column on the courier box, which clearly read ‘Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group’, and immediately frowned.
“Who sent this?”
“Just an ordinary delivery person,” Jack glanced towards where the delivery person had just left, “nothing special.”
Looking at the delivery box, Alan uttered, “Unpack it.”
