Chapter109 Stepmother
Stepmother
Deadly silence befell the office. Things that could be smashed on the table were all smashed.
Only immature adults would do this to vent their emotions.
No one had expected that Richard Zellweger, the president of the Zellweger Group, would make such a
move.
Sitting by his desk, Richard gradually calming down. His cold features seemed to have been carved out
of ice and his ink-black eyes were covered with a layer of frost.
When Pearl left seven years ago, he spent a long time digging a grave in the deepest part of his heart
to bury the sweet and painful moments she had brought.
However, since the day he saw Pearl in the hospital, the pain was like a pressed spring, bouncing out
crazily.
He knew that in his life Pearl was a disaster he would never be able to avoid.
...
On the first day of school, class was about to begin.
After Ethan and Pearl talked to the teacher about the usual habits and preferences of Bonny and
Brandon, they left the children behind and left the school.
"What do you want to eat for lunch?" Ethan's car was parked a little far away, and they walked side by
side under the shade of the camphor trees.
Pearl looked at her watch, "I have a surgery to do this afternoon. Let's just have a simple meal."
"Ok, I'll find a place nearby to have lunch."
"Alright."
The international school was used to be a church before it became a school. Bonny and Brandon
stayed overseas for a long time, so Ethan arranged for them to be there.
There were many places for lunch nearby. Considering that they didn't have much time, and had to go
to work in the afternoon, they went to an Italian restaurant and ordered two pasta, which was served
quickly.
It looked quite delicious.
After tasting it, Ethan put down his fork and shook his head in disgust. "I think the pasta we ate last
year at Hokkaido tasted better. Bonny kept thinking about it even after we went back."
"Mr. Louise, can you eat some pasta quietly? Are you going to Hokkaido again just for its pasta?" Pearl
said.
Last winter, Ethan and she went to Hokkaido together. The place looked absolutely ethereal as if they
were not on earth.
That was actually the first time they went on a long-distance trip.
But the reason behind that was somewhat ridiculous.
At that moment, Ethan folded his arms and leaned against the chair, "Let's go there during the winter
vacation after we're done with work."
"Why?" Pearl's heart suddenly thumped, "What kind of playboy trouble are you getting into again?"
"What do you say that? Am I that kind of person in your eyes?"
"Aren't you?" Pearl unceremoniously rolled her eyes, "Didn't you go there last year just to avoid your
ex-girlfriend?"
"Ex-ex-ex-ex-girlfriend, to be exact." Ethan corrected.
"One out of ten women spotted on the streets could be your ex. I can't even remember." Pearl ate the
pasta, not bothering to talk to him.
It was a rare trip, but it was because Ethan's ex-girlfriend came to their apartment and made a huge
fuss after she knew he was married. Pearl didn't want things to spread to the hospital and her job to be
influenced, so they took a month off and went on a trip to Hokkaido.
Her felt at that time as if she was escaping from a disaster. If Pearl hadn't had fun in Hokkaido, she
would have punched Ethan at the airport.
"The pasta will get cold if you don't have it," Pearl reminded him. "You have a shift in the Emergency
Department tonight, and may not be able to eat by then."
"Girls will send me food anyway."
Pearl rolled her eyes again. "So which nurse this time?"
Before Ethan could reply, she waved her hand. "Forget it. I'd better not get involved."
They had been teasing each other for wholly seven years. In Ethan's world, apart from his relatives, he
had never spent such a long time with anyone else.
He wasn't a patient person. However, for Pearl, he couldn't even tell if she was family or a missed love.
"What are you deal with the issue of Zellweger family?" He asked.
Pearl was having some soup when she suddenly heard these words. Her eyebrows twitched. Then she
put down her spoon and said, "Now I can only get close to Richard."
"It's gonna be troublesome."
She had no idea if Ethan meant that it would be troublesome to get close to Richard, or if it would be
troublesome if she got close to Richard. Or both. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
"I know, but this is the only shortcut."
"Actually, it's necessarily true."
"What do you mean by that?" Pearl asked.
"The current wife of Richard's father's has two children. The youngest is born weak. He has asthma
and was taken care of by a special family doctor."
Hearing this, Pearl was a bit taken aback.
Ethan seriously said, "Although this method is a bit twisted, at least you can get closer to the Zellweger
family. It's up to you to think about it."
Pearl looked a little hesitant.
She knew that Ethan was doing this for her own good. Her current identity was publicly acknowledged
by the Louise family as Ethan's wife. If she was to get involved with Richard once again, it wouldn't be
a good thing.
Mrs. Louise treated her with kindness. She couldn't bring shame to the Louise family by doing this.
However, it was a little too far-fetched to start with Richard's stepmother. Ever since Richard's parents
had divorced, other than appearing once at the annual Council of Public Affairs, there was practically
no occasion of the Zellweger family's where his father would appear in.
"I'll think about it." Pearl said.
"There's no rush," Ethan looked at his watch. "It's getting late. Let's go back to the hospital."
"Yeah, let's go." Pearl left the restaurant with Ethan.
After they left, the waiter came to clean up the table. There were two plates of pasta on the table. One
of them was almost completely eaten, while the other hadn't been touched at all.
