Melissa's POV

I could feel that Sebastian was still a little afraid. He worried whether I might one day leave his side.

I didn't know how to assure him that I wouldn't leave him so easily. I needed to ensure he felt completely secure with me. Perhaps the only way to case his mind was through endless companionship. These past few days, I've been under a lot of pressure, and I didn't have much appetite. I managed a small meal at lunch, but as soon as I returned to my room, I threw it all up in the bathroom. He was very concerned about my condition and wanted to call a doctor, but I didn't want to trouble the doctors with personal matters, so I quickly declined his suggestion.

He held me in his arms, trying to comfort me, hoping I would feel better.

"I've noticed your temperature rising lately, but I didn't pay too much attention at first. But now, it seems like you're burning up. Is something seriously wrong with your body?"

His voice was filled with worry, though he struggled to stay composed in front of me.

"It started yesterday after our afternoon tea. I've already thrown everything up, but I'll be

fine soon."

Honestly, I was feeling a little better overall, but I still had some lingering nausea.

But I didn't want Sebastian to worry about me, so I forced myself to muster some energy.

"Shall we take a bath? I think the water will help soothe me."

He immediately picked me up and carried me to the bathroom.

"Did you go downstairs to get your meal, or did someone bring it to you?" Sebastian asked cautiously. He said that, and I knew he was trying to hint at me, but I shook my head. "Don't worry! Darling, I just suspect they did something to the food. I'm not going to punish them right away."

I didn't mention what had happened earlier that day. Instead, we remained silent, letting the water wash over us. Once I had calmed down, he carried me back to the bed.

"This situation is bad. You should rest here for now and stop worrying about those things."

"No! My Alpha, this time I must refuse you. I'm feeling much better."

I affectionately nuzzled his face, but Sebastian still looked far from at ease.

He knew I wasn't the type to give up easily, so he just wanted to help me recover quickly.

I understood that most doctors were taking care of the injured, so I pretended to be stronger than I felt.

"I'm feeling better, just relax. I think it's just that my stress has been high lately, and the food triggered my appetite. I still want to talk with that maid. I have a feeling she knows more than she's letting on."

After changing into my clothes, we prepared to head to the dungeon. As we passed Debra's room, I couldn't help feeling a bit nervous.

"Perhaps we shouldn't let her go to Howell so easily. We need to be more cautious."

I was deeply concerned that once Debra left the Northern Territory, those people would accelerate their plans against us.

But Sebastian shook his head.

"Honestly, I know what you're worried about. If she stays here, there's no telling what she might do she could try to use other women against us, or even hurt you again. Not to mention, I don't want to be bothered. No matter how she tries to convince me to spare Geraint and Vince, I won't soften. It's sad, but I really did once consider them family..."

Feeling his sorrow, I gently took his hand.

"Sebastian, you don't need to think about this right now. Maybe it really wasn't your brother. We should consider another angle. Perhaps he was just being used too. We can wait and see how things unfold. If it turns out he was behind it, then he must take responsibility. We need to uncover the truth, not make baseless assumptions. We need to ensure that we investigate these matters thoroughly the council meeting. They won't care if you're under pressure. They'll only be concerned with how you handle the situation, or whether they can shift the blame onto you. They won't care if the investigation gets resolved, just that they oppose your leadership and find a way to force you out."

My mind wasn't entirely clear, but this seemed like the best explanation I could come up with.

"It would be great if everyone was as understanding as you."

He stopped and kissed my forehead, then gently stroked my back.

"Don't overwork yourself, and don't trust them too much. Many of my ancestors met their end at the hands of those they trusted."

As we reached the dungeon, I couldn't help but admire Basil's methods. He truly had some tricks up his sleeve.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

The maid appeared utterly exhausted, and every time she seemed on the verge of falling asleep, Basil would call out to her, denying her any rest. 83.8%

11:28 Mon,

To be honest, I was more troubled by the fact that our enemy was Sebastian's mother and brothers.

Even though Sebastian firmly stood by my side, I still felt uneasy and fearful.

I didn't want their relationship to suffer because of this.

The moment I met Winnie Harold, I should have kept her in the Northern Territory. Her actions were too deliberate, and it immediately raised my suspicions. Even though she had appeared sincere at the time, now, looking back, I realized there had been something off when she exchanged glances with Geraint. The sharp smell of disinfectant in the cell made me feel even worse, but I fought back the nausea and spoke to the maid with determination. "Still unwilling to speak? Where did Winnie Harold go, and does she have any other connections to Geraint?"

I couldn't show any signs of illness, or Sebastian wouldn't allow me to take part in these

matters.

"I've told you... I really don't know anything..."

Her lips were chapped and dry, and she looked exhausted and dejected.

"Luna is asking you," Sebastian ordered, "Look up."

"It's clear you care about your child, don't you?"

I had finally said it, though this was the method I had most hoped to avoid.

Upon hearing "child," the maid slowly lifted her head, her eyes wide with shock.

"How could you be so despicable? You're investigating me!"

Clearly, she thought I was planning to harm her child, but I shook my head.

"You're mistaken. I only smelled the scent of milk on you. You've just finished breastfeeding, haven't you?"

I had once personally breastfed Aaron, so I knew exactly in what circumstances a mother would be willing to risk her life to keep the truth hidden.

She bit her lower lip so hard that I thought it might bleed, and finally, in that moment, her emotions broke.

"My child is only seven months old! Winnie Harold sent people to kidnap him! They threatened me, saying I had to follow their instructions, or my child would be harmed. I don't know who Winnie is listening to, and I've never seen her be close to anyone else. It seems like they communicated through emails. After I was captured, she wrote down every detail on a piece of paper. I swear what I'm saying is the truth. She probably hasn't even gone south these past few days-she's hiding in Howell... They took my son, and I 84.2% Chapter 55

have no choice but to do as they say if I want to save him."

The maid spoke through tears, her voice trembling, but I gave a faint smile, tugging at the corner of my lips.

The situation had finally progressed, and I was glad to be of help.
