Jonathan’s words were like a wake–up call. Cynthia noticed Hector’s red ears and had her suspicions earlier. When she found Hector didn’t know Naomi was a girl, she only felt it was absurd,
Now that it was clear Hector had a crush on Naomi, whom he thought was a man, it seemed even more ridiculous. It was a real dramatic twist.
After she calmed down, a bit of worry crept in. “I never saw it coming that Hector might like men.”
Jonathan took a bite of the tender fish and said slowly, “It’s not about him liking men. It’s about his feelings for Naomi, whether Naomi is a man or a woman, his heart’s still caught.”
Cynthia nodded in agreement. She took out her phone. “I’ll call him and tell him the truth. He’s probably confused now; he seemed out of sorts earlier.”
Being a straight guy who feels like he’s fallen for another guy has to be a pretty unsettling feeling.
Jonathan said calmly, “Don’t interfere. That’s their business. Besides, how do you know Naomi will like him back? Everyone’s love stories have their development; don’t get involved, or you might just disrupt their balance.”
Cynthia found some truth in his words but quickly sensed something off. She asked with suspicion, “Jonathan, are you holding a grudge? Is that why you’re not telling him?”
Earlier, Hector glared at him with such animosity. Jonathan chuckled, “Why hold a grudge? You take him as your brother now. We’re family. Let them have their romance journey. It’s more exciting if he discovers it himself.”
Cynthia considered Jonathan’s words and found some truth in them. After all, it was someone else’s relationship, and she shouldn’t interfere. Besides, Naomi hadn’t shown any clear intention, so Cynthia was in no position to meddle.
Years later, Cynthia brought up this little incident during a New Year’s Eve dinner. Hector was so enraged that his face turned dark, and he gave Jonathan a hard punch then.
They joked with Hector that he was a man with a fragile ego. Little did they know how much Hector had suffered back then, almost driving him to a breakdown. But that was a story for another time.
After finishing their meal, Cynthia and Jonathan, on a whim, decided to take a walk around Roncrity University’s track and field area.
It was one of those rare times when they felt completely at ease. Like any ordinary couple, they walked hand in hand on the rubber track, without any worries.
The evening breeze brushed past their faces like soft hands. Hand in hand, they walked for quite a while before lying down on the grass to look up at the stars.

They stopped at a nearby basketball court. They sat in the stands while watching students play a nighttime basketball game. Cynthia was engrossed, clapping and cheering occasionally.
Jonathan tilted his head and said, “Do you even know basketball games? You’re even clapping?”
Cynthia shook her head and said, “I don’t get it, but it doesn’t stop me from checking out a handsome guy. Look at that boy in jersey number 8; his basketball moves are so cool.”
Jonathan frowned and said, “Stop looking. We’re going home.” NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
Cynthia didn’t hear him at all. As soon as she saw another successful shot, she clapped her hands and shouted, “Nice shot!”
“Cynthia, you’re still watching!”
“Just a little longer, come on That energetic, sun–kissed guy is so easy on the eyes.”
Jonathan had already stood up. But he immediately crouched down and scooped Cynthia up. “I can be as energetic as you want and as much energy as you need. Let’s go home, and I’ll give you a show.”
After Cynthia and Jonathan left Roncrity University, they didn’t notice Hector and Naomi just drove out of the parking lot
too.
Just after Naomi was pulled away by Hector, they got into the car. But they didn’t actually drive away.
Hector was really angry. “Whenever someone says you are sissy, you explode like a firecracker. Jonathan almost called you a woman earlier, and you just took it. Do you like Cynthia that much? Do you have to go that far for her?
“I saw that she didn’t stand up for you either. Naomi, don’t humiliate yourself.”
Naomi didn’t get upset. She lit a thin cigarette and started smoking. As the smoke circled around her, she said calmly, “It’s not that serious. Don’t make a fuss.”
Naomi’s face was partially hidden in the swirling smoke, making it appear a bit unreal.
Hector was getting even more annoyed. He wasn’t sure if he was angrier at Jonathan’s mocking insults or Naomi’s indifferent attitude.
Or maybe it was neither. It was that special feeling inside him that he couldn’t control as if it would break free soon.
He looked at Naomi’s delicate face. Inside, it felt like several cats were scratching, leaving an itch that was painful yet
Lirresistible.
His voice turned colder. “I shouldn’t have intervened. You don’t care at all. You’re Cynthia’s lapdog. She’s married. Waiting is pointless. She doesn’t see you as a man. Have some self–respect. You should keep your distance from her. Why humiliate yourself?”
Hector felt bad when he thought of the time Naomi snatched a fork from Cynthia. Normally, Naomi was quite carefree and casual, but he never used others‘ forks.
But with Cynthia, things were different. He wondered if this was what they called self–deception.”
To Jonathan, such behavior seemed provocative. No wonder Jonathan said Naomi should be more mindful of the boundaries.
But Hector felt that Naomi was just being masochistic, asking for trouble. After Naomi was mocked, it was as if a thorn had lodged in his heart.
Naomi, on the other hand, wasn’t concerned at all. She turned her head in surprise and looked at Hector. “This is between me and them. Why are you so upset?”
“Naomi!”
Hector’s face was gloomy, his eyes fixed intently on her. He was truly furious. A dangerous light glittered in his eyes.
Naomi casually continued smoking. “Alright, alright, don’t fuss over it. I admit I’m head over heels for Cynthia. So what if I like her? I was abandoned by my dad as a child and grew up with her. No matter what, she’s the most important person in my life.
“You don’t understand our relationship, so don’t meddle. I don’t need you to stand up for me.”
Naomi had thought about just telling him she was a girl. But she figured once she did, they’d probably never meet again.
Hector seemed to have no interest in women. Recently, they went to Unity Bar every night, yet even though she introduced
countless beautiful women to him, he avoided them like the plague.
Even if someone barely touched him, he would wipe that spot with disinfectant wipes. She wondered if they could still hang out like brothers so easily if he actually knew she was a girl.
For some reason, a wave of irritation rose in Naomi’s heart.
