Chapter 78
The bright lightning instantly split open the darkness and Jesse’s frozen face.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. It’s all my fault. I’m sorry, Jesse. I know I was wrong. I really know I was wrong!”
“I’ve already paid with my life for you guys!”
Looking at Nydia, who was retreating and pale, Jesse frowned, not knowing why she suddenly became like this.
She held her knees, shaking her head and crying, her eyes staring widely but seemingly unfocused.
“It hurts so much, my face hurts so much!” She covered her face with both hands, crying in pain.
“Willette, don’t come over, don’t come over!”
Why did her face hurt?
Willette? There were only the two of them in the bedroom. Where did Willette come from?
“Nydia!” He called her name.
But she seemed unable to hear him at all, in a very agitated and painful state.
She alternately covered her face, pulled her hair, and even slapped herself.
Jesse’s pupils contracted, and he knew this symptom. It was like post-traumatic stress disorder.
Was it because the drowning incident left a deep shadow on her?
He had to calm her down, or else…
He immediately stood up from the wheelchair and climbed onto the bed.
“Don’t come over!” She was startled and immediately moved back.
But Jesse acted quickly, reaching out and pulling her into his arms, holding her tightly and preventing her hands from hurting herself.
However, Nydia struggled hard.
“Let go of me, let go of me! If you don’t let go of me, I’ll kill you, kill you!” Her voice gradually lowered, and in the end, it sounded like a dreamy chant.
Suddenly!
There was a sharp pain in Jesse’s shoulder, and he groaned.
But he still held Nydia tightly and didn’t let go.
“Nydia, it’s me, Jesse!” He spoke softly, word by word, into her ear. “You’re safe now, you’re at home, no one will hurt you, and everyone is okay!”
Feeling that Nydia’s teeth weren’t biting down anymore, he breathed a sigh of relief and continued to comfort her gently.
Although his voice was usually cold and deep, at this moment, it was gentle like the spring water in March, with warmth gradually seeping into Nydia’s body.
As the strength on his shoulder loosened, Jesse felt his right arm becoming heavier. He turned his head and saw that Nydia had closed her eyes, with her eyelashes wet with tears.
For a moment, Jesse didn’t know if she had fainted or fallen asleep.
He placed her on the bed, wiped away the tears on her face, and tucked her stray hair behind her ear.
He put his fingers on her neck to feel her pulse, and thought that she had probably passed out and should be okay.
The rain outside was still pouring heavily, accompanied by thunder. Another lightning bolt struck outside the window.
Jesse noticed that her brow had furrowed slightly, and he also saw her lips turn pale and her eyelashes trembling lightly.
After covering her with a blanket, Jesse intended to leave, but as he turned around, his hand was grabbed.
He turned back, only to see that Nydia had not opened her eyes.
