Chapter 37
"I-I'll eat it..." Mayra recalled how Anderson was when he was furious. She was afraid that he might send her away again, so she didn't dare to disobey him.
She immediately squatted and picked up the fork from the ground. Her mind went blank as she sat in her seat, fearfully eating the cold steak until she felt her stomach aching. She didn't dare to spit it out in front of him, nor did she dare to stop even when her mouth was full. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Anderson stood up again. He cut a piece of cake and passed it to Mayra. After she finished the steak, she used her spoon to eat the cake. She devoured it as if she were really hungry even though it didn't taste right.
But the next second, she felt an uncomfortable rumbling in her stomach. She immediately stood up and pushed Anderson away. Then, she ran to the trash can in the corner and threw up everything she had eaten.
Her stomach twitched in pain. Mayra clung to the wall and clenched her fists with all of her strength.
Her pained appearance was reflected in the floor-to-ceiling windows. Anderson became slightly irritated for some reason. He furrowed his brows deeply.
After emptying the contents of her stomach, she felt dizzy. She suddenly became so weak that she nearly lost her footing and fell.
"Are you alright now?" He handed her a blue handkerchief embroidered with tulips.
But Mayra didn't take it. She was terrified and took a few steps back to distance herself from him. She wiped away her tears, not daring to look at him.
"T-thank you for everything you've prepared for me today. The steak was delicious, and the fireworks were stunning. But it's getting late, so I'm leaving now."
She suppressed the twitching in her stomach. After picking up her bag from the table, she took several unsteady steps toward the elevator, as if she were confronting a scary demon.
"I didn't let you leave. You can take another step forward if you dare to."
Mayra paused. She clutched her bag tightly, her body shaking with fear. "A-Andy, I'm very grateful for the surprise you prepared for me, but please don't do this again. I'll take care of myself in the future. "
Of course, Anderson understood what she meant. The girl he had raised since childhood wished to cut connections with him for the sake of a stranger.
His cold voice sounded threatening behind her as he bellowed, "Do you mean to say I'm still not as good as Gordon?"
He slowly walked toward Mayra, who was about to leave. She could stay away from him as long as she pressed the elevator button. But when he mentioned Gordon, she already knew he was threatening her.
If she left today, something might happen to Gordon because of her. Anderson, as a person with a high position, could do anything he desired. Nobody knew what he would do. He might ruin Gordon's future.
He grabbed Mayra's hand and turned her around. He slowly wiped the dirt off her mouth with his handkerchief before wiping away her tears.
"Are you unwilling to give in?" She remained silent and allowed him to continue. "Mayra, do you not like me anymore?"
