Chapter 209 A Horrible Scream In The Middle Of The Night
Chapter 209 A Horrible Scream In The Middle Of The Night
Both Deborah and Lily were taken aback to see Irene and Eden coming home to celebrate Steven's
birthday. They exchanged glances and knew what this entailed. Didn't Marie say that Irene would leave
San Fetillo soon? However, why did the situation turn out to be the opposite of what she had said?
They knew it was time to have a chat with Marie about what was happening.
Both the mother and daughter forced a smile as they faced Irene and Eden. Deborah even praised
Eden, "Eden has grown up so handsomely! You'll definitely become a handsome man when you're
older!"
Lily hurriedly complemented her mother's actions. Eden asked Irene, "Mom, who are they?"
Irene pointed at Deborah and Lily before explaining, "She is Mrs. Cook, and she is Mrs. Cook's
daughter. You may call her Miss Cook."
Eden nodded, "Hello, Mrs. Cook and Miss Cook!"
The way he had greeted both Deborah and her daughter disgusted them. Eden was shocked to see
Lily's pregnant belly and asked Irene, "Mom, Miss Cook's tummy is bigger than yours."
"Yeah, that's because Miss Cook is pregnant with twins. So, it's only natural that her belly is bigger than
mine," Irene said cheekily.
They initially thought that Irene would take this opportunity to sneer at Lily's pregnancy and become
upset and angry. However, Irene was acting the total opposite by behaving unconcernedly. Both Lily
and Deborah knew that something was amiss, but they could not spot where the flaw was.
Steven was anxious that Irene would say something nasty upon seeing Lily's pregnancy. However, he
heaved a sigh of relief after watching Irene's reaction. He pulled on Eden's hand and said, "Eden and I
are going upstairs to see the rooms."
Irene followed behind them as Steven brought Eden upstairs. Deborah and Lily felt rather unpleasant to
see Steven and Maisy behaving friendly to Irene and Eden.
Lily whispered to Deborah, "Mom, why is she so unbothered?"
"How would I know?" Deborah was impatient, "Please don't act so rashly tonight. I don't think this
matter is that simple. Irene is not a good person to cross paths with either, so we must be careful."
Both Deborah and her daughter felt uneasy the entire time. They were afraid that Irene
would suddenly have ill intentions. However, they were mistaken. Dinner was pleasant and friendly, and
Irene did not create any trouble. They even chatted during dinner, and she told Lily some pregnancy
tips without any hostility.
The more Irene behaved like that, the more the mother-daughter duo felt uncomfortable. Later that
evening, Eden and Irene stayed over at the Cook family's house. Eden did not dare to sleep alone, and
Irene would not be assured of leaving him alone. Hence, both of them slept in the same bedroom.
Lily went back to her bedroom after watching both Irene and Eden enter their bedroom. After a while,
Deborah brought over a glass of milk for her. She closed the door behind her as Lily muttered, "Mom, I
honestly feel that Irene was behaving abnormally."
"I feel the same way too. She has never had a good impression of you, but she even shared some
good tips with you. If she behaved snappy towards us, I would be more at ease. The more she
behaves like this, the more anxious I feel. I'm worried that she might do something to your baby since
she has come over out of the blue."
"Will she really do anything?" Lily was taken aback.
"It's possible. You can't get pregnant anymore if you have a miscarriage now. If she wants to attack
you, the consequences would be unimaginable. We have to find a way to deal with her."
"How, though?" Deborah's word held some truth in them. If she lost this child, there would not be any
future for her. So, she had better be on guard against Irene.
"You should stay outside for a few days and only come back when she's gone," Deborah had no other
choice but to persuade her daughter to stay away from the house.
Lily was frightened too, so she agreed with her mother's proposal.
Deborah was sleepless that night as she laid on the bed. Her heart was busy guessing what Irene's
real intentions were. It was not until midnight that she could finally fall asleep in a daze.
Deborah had a dream. The dream was a flashback of the scene in front of the café by the roadside that
day. Myra's body was oozing with blood as she laid in a pool of blood. Meanwhile, she stood at the
cafe's entrance as she witnessed her painful death. She observed her blood draining out of her body
bit by bit as happiness trickled in her with every passing minute.
However, that joyful feeling only lasted for a few minutes. Suddenly, Myra jumped up and pounced on
her. She screamed, "Deborah Jones, I'll kill you!" Deborah was scared out of her wits. She wanted to
run, but her legs were paralyzed.
The moment Myra's bloodied hands went to strangle her neck, Deborah's eyes were wide-open.
She immediately sat up in fear and felt cold sweat all over her back. Steven woke up from her sudden
movements. He groaned, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I feel thirsty, so I'm going to get some water to drink," Deborah got out of bed lightly. She did
not have any intention to drink water, but her heart was thumping rapidly. She could only choose to
hide from Steven so that he would not notice her unusual behavior.
After pouring a glass of water at the kitchen, Deborah sat down at the dining table and gulped down the
water. Then, she felt slightly more at ease. She had experienced this nightmare a few times after
Myra's death, but that was a few days after Myra's funeral. Myra's death had happened long ago, so
what was wrong with her now? Why did she have this nightmare all of a sudden?
She felt uncomfortable. She did not believe in spirits, so she was not certain of the reason. She had
been feeling uneasy and frantic the whole day. Was something bad going to happen?
She recalled the scene of Myra's death. She had an appointment with Myra that day. When Myra
arrived at the cafe, she was smiling from cheek to cheek as she said, "Deborah, didn't I say that we
should meet up at home straight away? Why didn't you come to my place?"
Deborah did not smile when she saw Myra's cheerful expression, "It wouldn't fit for me to speak of this
matter at your home!"
"What's going on?"
She opened her bag and took out a photo. She handed it to Myra and said, "Look at this!"
Myra took the photo over and stared at it before returning it to her, "Who's child is this? She's pretty!"
"Beautiful, right? Don't you spot any differences?" she asked coldly.
"Differences?" Myra took the photo back and gazed at it, "This child looks like you."
"You think she looks like me? It's said that the daughters will look like their father. This child doesn't
look like me, but she's quite alike to her father," she sneered.
"Who is her father? Do I know him?"
"Of course you do. How could you not know him? You two cross paths with each other day and night."
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Myra's face was filled with shock.
"I'm not talking nonsense. This is really your husband's child, born from another woman!" Myra's
expression darkened instantly as she said this. She snatched the photo back and observed it carefully
for some time.
The more she stared at it, the darker Myra's facial expression became. Deborah was ecstatic to
witness Myra's face paling as the seconds passed, "Are you not curious who her mother is?"
"Who is it?" Myra's voice trembled when she put down the photo.
"I am the mother!" She scoffed as she whispered the two words to Myra. Myra's expression changed,
and she glared at her in shock, "That's impossible! How could that be?"
"Why is it impossible? Everything else can be used to deceive people, but do you think that such
matters can be used to trick other people?" She glared at Myra's pale face, "Do you remember when
Steven had gone on that business trip to San Fertile? As his wife, you should know that he had
misplaced one of his underwear that he brought, right? That underwear is still in my house."
Deborah's reminder triggered Myra's memory. She had always packed for Steven's business trips and This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
did the laundry herself. When he came back that day, one of his underwear had indeed been missing.
At that time, she felt that it was strange and had asked him about it. However, Steven's expression had
seemed uncomfortable at that moment when he answered that he lost it. It did not occur to him that he
was having an affair.
However, she did not expect that his underwear would be left in her best friend's house. She was
unable to explain how she felt at that moment. Myra glowered at her, "Deborah, I've always treated you
as my best friend. There are so many men out there. Why must you choose Steven? Why?"
Deborah sneered as she replied to Myra's question, "You should ask your husband this question
instead, not me. He was the one who wanted to have an affair with me. How could I have refused
him?"
"I did not expect you to be such a shameless person. Well, I'm blind. Deborah Jones, our bridges are
burned from now on!"
Myra scowled at her with disdain, but she did not lose control of her temper as Deborah had imagined.
She spat out the final sentence and left.
When she got up and was ready to leave, Deborah called out to her, "Hold on, there's one more thing I
need to tell you!"
However, Myra ignored her and continued to leave. Deborah stopped her and said, "Actually, I'm not
Steven's only lover. He has had other women that he had a few children with too."
"Get lost!" Myra spat.
"You don't believe me? I'll make you believe me," Deborah sneered. She ignored Myra's angry
reactions and whispered three words in her ears. After she muttered those words, Myra's face turned
grave and shrieked, "You're lying!"
"You can go see for yourself if I'm lying or not. You took her husband away, and based on her hatred for
you, is there nothing that she wouldn't do?" Deborah reminded her coldly, "I've forgotten to tell you that
both her child and my child were born on the same day."
"How could this be? Why would you two do this to me?" Reality hit Myra like a truck. Her eyes lost their
spark, and her hand slapped Debora's cheeks uncontrollably before stumbling her way out.
Not long later, Myra was run over by a truck, her body left on the roadside. Deborah witnessed the
whole process. There was blood all over the ground, and she had been gasping in a pool of blood.
Since it was nighttime, the house was quiet. That piece of memory chilled Deborah to her bones. She
did not dare to stay downstairs any longer and stood up. When she was about to go upstairs, she saw
a white figure with long hair. She could not help screaming.
Her horrifying scream was sharp, and everyone in the villa was alerted. Steven, Lily, and Maisy all
rubbed their eyes as they walked out of their bedroom to check what had happened.
"What happened?" Steven asked with a frown. He saw Deborah standing at the corner of the stairs and
Irene, who was about to go downstairs.
"I don't know," Irene raised her hands innocently, "I was thirsty, so I wanted to get some water. When I
was about to go downstairs, Mrs. Cook was just about to come up. Suddenly, she screamed, like she
had been possessed."
Deborah held her chest. She was the best at adapting to situations, "I just saw a black cat with green
eyes. I'm most afraid of cats!"
"What's there to be surprised about? It was just a cat," Steven frowned, "Moreover, there are no cats in
the villa. How did you see a cat?"
"There had to be something wrong with her eyes," Lily immediately spoke on behalf of her mother.
Irene remained quiet. She had witnessed everything clearly. Deborah had screamed when she saw
her. If she did not feel guilty, what was there to be frightened of?
