Chapter 1314
Jenna rolled her eyes, clearly frustrated. "I've told you, everyone knows Claire's just pretending to be the Russell family heiress. It's such a lame lie. Do you think people in our circle are that clueless? They know Claire's a fake, but it's James behind her who's the real deal! In this crowd, plenty are trying to climb the social ladder by getting close to business families. They're just playing along, treating Claire like the real heiress to get in with James. It's all about picking the right team!" Sandy, a bit clueless, chimed in, "But couldn't they just team up with Sophie?"
Sophie couldn't help but chuckle. "The CEOS who make it in Devonport aren't fools. The fight between S Corporation and Burke International is intense, and everyone knows it. With the whole Russell family heiress drama, they see that Burke International is gunning for me. James hasn't been in Devonport all these years for nothing; he's always managed to handle whoever he needed to. With Lennon's mysterious death, Mr. Gordon's illness, Harold's betrayal, and Odie's downfall, why would they back someone like me, who's at a disadvantage?"Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Sandy finally caught on, "So, this is Burke International's way of winning people over and expanding their connections?"
Sophie nodded.
Meanwhile, Angelo, looking at Sandy in disbelief, asked, "You actually got all that?"
"Bro, don't tell me you didn't get any of it?"
Feeling defensive, Angelo huffed, "Of course I did! I'm the backbone of this family! How could I not?"
Sandy just rolled her eyes at Angelo.
Sophie turned to Jenna, saying, "Jenna, I have another favor to ask."
"What's up?"
"Claire mentioned today that I was kidnapped as a kid, but I don't remember it at all. It must have been big news back then, probably in the papers. Could you help me find those old newspapers?"
"Old newspapers about a kidnapping? I doubt any exist because back then..."
Before Jenna could finish, Adler suddenly spilled tea on her. "Ah! Adler! Are you trying to ruin my day?"
Tea splattered on Jenna's dress, and she shot up from the couch, looking furious.
Adler quickly grabbed her, apologizing, "I'm so sorry! It was an accident! Jenna, let me help you change."
"Why are you so clumsy? This is my new dress!"
With her expression darkening, Adler ushered her toward the stairs, "Come on, let's get you sorted." Sophie watched them, feeling something was off.

Upstairs, Jenna shook off Adler's hand, fuming, "Adler, you better give me a good reason! Why stop me from mentioning the newspapers?"

"Shh!" Adler gestured for silence. "You know M. Gordon had all the news shut down back then. The Aldridge family bought back every paper in the city! Everyone's forgotten about the kidnapping. If you bring it up now, what'll happen to Mr. Gordon?"
