Sweet Revenge: Jace & Emerald

Chapter 52

“Mr. Cedrick Rosa?” Emerald asked as the man entered her office. He nodded and offered his hand for a shake, which young Morgan accepted, motioning him to sit on a chair before her.

“Thank you,” Cedrick said, taking the seat. “I know you’re wondering who and why I am here.”

“I’ve been waiting for you to tell me that,” Emerald replied, smiling.

“I’m a detective,” he said, creasing Emerald’s forehead. She doesn’t know any reason for a detective to visit her.

“And what can I do for you, Mr. Detective?” she asked.

“I want to know where Ms. Ember Ferguson is.” Emerald was stunned. She couldn’t say anything and was just looking at the man. “Ms. Morgan?”

“Why are you asking me about her?” Young Morgan finally got her tongue back.

“You know why. She used to take care of you.” Cedrick answered with a creased forehead. “Ms. Morgan, I have been trying to find her whereabouts, and all my investigation has led to you.”

“Why are you looking for her? Don’t tell me you’re the detective Liam was talking about; that was also after my nanny.”

“I was indeed after your nanny. I mean, Ms. Ember, but not for the bad reason.” Cedrick replied. “My client, Mr. Landers, was the man she loved and loved her back and was supposed to marry through an arranged marriage. But since she didn’t know that, she left their home and changed her name.”

“I don’t understand,” Emerald said, confused. Although Liam already told me about her nanny’s real identity, she still couldn’t believe it was true.

“And let me add some to your confusion,” the detective continued. “This is not the first time I’ve seen you. The first one was in the hospital, and you were about to leave with a boy, your son. And since then, I couldn’t help but think about you.”

“Wait, detective. I am married and have a son.”

“I’m sorry if you misunderstand, but it’s not what I mean,” Cedrick said as he waved his hands.

“What is it that you mean then?”

“When I first saw you, you looked familiar. I was talking to Mr. Landers that time, and then I realized that you look exactly like him.”

“So?”This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

“Ms. Ember is also Mr. Lander’s only love; before Ms. Ember left, something happened to them.”

“Can you go straight to the point?” Emerald asked in annoyance. She was feeling impatient and started to get curious.

“I had a feeling that you are somehow related to him. I told Mr. Landers about you, and I really want to know, so can you let me have your DNA test?”

“For what?”

“For being Mr. Landers’ daughter.”

“What? Are you crazy? I have my parents and family!”

“Who are not good to you and never treated you like one. That is according to my investigation. I’m sorry if I must look into your life, but I stumbled upon it while searching for Ms. Ember. I know it was hard to digest everything I was telling you, but believe it or not, and I’m really sorry because I am excited about this. I will also be very happy if what my instinct tells me turns out to be the truth.” Emerald was quiet for a moment. Yes, never in her entire life have her parents treated her the way they treated Emerose. She felt like an outcast and was never loved. “Ms. Morgan, I hope you will let me.”

“So what if I am not their family member?” she asked.

“Then Mr. Landers will be very happy. You don’t know how much he wanted to be with your mother, Ms. Ember. I had been searching for her for years; others did that before me. If I can find you and Ms. Ember, it will be my greatest accomplishment in my entire career. And you haven’t asked, but Mr. Landers is also my friend, so I will be very happy to help him this way.”

Young Morgan was filled with hope. She wanted a family who would care and love her for who and what she was. She looked at Cedrick, thinking whether she would let him get her DNA, and was hesitant. But the urge of curiosity was pushing her, so she replied,

“Okay. Let’s do that.” Cedrick looked at her happily. Although he knew what she had been through with her family, he still thought that he would have a hard time making her agree to a DNA test.

“Thank you, Ms. Morgan,” he said. “About Ms. Ember,”

“Whether you believe me or not, I had also been searching for her. And whenever I thought I was close to finding her, she was gone.”

“What do you mean?” Cedrick asked curiously, so Emerald told him everything she had learned about her missing nanny and how Liam and Detective Santos were also doing their best to look for her. “Will you be willing to share all the information you have so far? I knew about her disappearance as Lucy Caldwell, but I had no idea it was this serious.”

“What do you mean?” Emerald asked. She was curious to know others’ opinions.

“If Mrs. Morgan was behind it, then she should be dead by now. But none of us found her body or any dead bodies that matched her identity. So I think the one who took her must also have some feelings for her.”

“Then she’s probably alive and well right now,”

“She’s alive, that’s for sure. But for being well, I doubt it.”

“Why?”

“Because being in the arms of a person who took you away from your daughter and she didn’t love, what do you think she was feeling right now?” Young Morgan couldn’t say anything and was staring at the detective. After a few minutes,

“Let’s talk when they’re back,” Emerald replied.

“While I wait for them, I will give your samples to the laboratory with Mr. Landers’ sample.”

“That would be good. I’ll call you when my friends are back,” Emerald said, making Cedrick nod in agreement. He left his contact number before he left her office. Hopeful that she was indeed related to Mr. Landers. Although he could see their resemblance, he still wanted to make sure. His client and friend’s happiness was at stake, so he wanted to ensure everything was correct and accurate.

Young Morgan was left in deep thought. She remembered how her parents treated her while her nanny always protected her from them. She remembered how much she felt loved whenever Lucy was consoling her, saying comforting words that alleviated her heartaches caused by her family.

‘What if she is my real mother?’ she asked herself. But shook her head, ‘Why didn’t she tell me about it if she was?’ Emerald closed her eyes with a heavy heart and reminisced that she was very happy in her nanny’s arms. Then she thought about what Cedrick had told her. ‘Will I be able to feel the love of a family?’ she asked herself.
