“Why? The ceremony is not till 2 pm,” Stella found herself saying The scene moved on despite her confusion.
“your father needs to go over to see Samuel, so let’s get going” she said with a slightly irritated voice and started walking away, Stella sighed and held her tongue, knowing she could not argue with her mother at this time. She got down stairs in her jeans and shirt and got in the car without much of a word.
“You better not mess up today,” she heard her sister say, but Stella refused to look her way, it was normal for her to be despised by her family. It had been this way since she was young, and she was already used to this by now. She was not as strong or as fast as them and had been seen as the black sheep and a disgrace for the longest time.
Today was the day she would be getting engaged; her family, the Jones’s, were quite known for their wealth and power. As the only daughter, a lot was expected of her. Especially today.
Usually it was easy to arrange a marriage in her circle, but since it spread that she was in bed with an unknown man, a lot of families pulled back.
Her family already thought she was a disgrace, so she knew that if she did not get engaged today, they would disown her.
When they got to the event, they walked into a ballroom filled with guests. She saw her peers gathered and the elders a but away. She was completely nervous. As the car came to a stop, Stella looked around, her eyes scanning everyone at the grounds in search for Jack, her best
friend.
When she saw him in the distance with friends of his, she sighed in relief. She used to think she would never find a mate and was preparing to leave her family when they finally got tired of her and decided to throw her out.

This was until Jack asked her to pick him. It was not that she had never considered him before, after all, they were best friends, and she had a crush on him; she just did not think he wanted to be with her. He was the reason she was here today. They had decided six months ago that she would come today and would pick him up and have a fake engagement for a while to help her safe face.
Getting out of the car, she was relieved and somewhat nervous. She was not quite close to the rest of the clan because she was too weal to participate in most activities, so she only made her towards Jack. All the way there, she felt people look at her funny, but Stella chucked in to being the disgrace of the Jones family. But when she stepped closer to Jack, she was suddenly blocked by two girls. She knew them.

“Stella,” they said to her, talking in a sickeningly sweet voice that made Stella’s hair stand.
“Julie, Cena, how are you?” Stella said, and they both took each side of her arms and redirected her away from Jack. Stella shot Jack a look, begging for help, but she looked away an action Stella found odd. She had never seen him ignore her before. This made her uncomfortable.
“Where are we going?” Stella asked. They were much stronger than her, and she could not get them off her.
“You have never been to any debate ball before., have you?” Cena asked.
“No, why?” Stella asked.
“Well, all of our peers gather at the back for a small event,” Julie said, her black hair getting
everywhere, blocking Stella’s sight.
“The out back? What is out back?” Stella asked. Jack had never said anything about an event. She could understand if her family said nothing but why didn’t she hear anything about this from Jack?
“You enter the pit to show you are ready to take a mate,” Julie said as they dragged her to the back of the hotel, and she noticed that there were others gathered there.
Before she could do anything, she was thrown into a large pool before she could react.
Stella feels a sharp pain in her back from the kick she was given. She tries hard to not yell and holds it in successfully. She looked around confused till she heard laughing. Panicked, she spun around just in time to see others gathered around laughing.
“What is this?” she asked loudly, causing a wave of chuckles from the crowd above who had surrounded the large pool watching her.
“I can’t believe someone actually got in the pool at this eveny,” someone said.
“There was someone who could be dragged in.” another responded.
“What is going on?” Stella asked.

above said. Panicked. Stella hastens up,
strengthening the muscles in her legs and swimming out from the pool.
She barely made it out alive, as she had not swam in a long while. She was completely wet, and her hair was destroyed. She looked up at the crowd angrily, but they only continued to laugh. Seeing her reaction, someone called to Jack, who is standing afar.
Jack, your friend really tell into the pool,” they said, and a round of laughter went around. Stella got up and hurried over to Jack’s side. She was not sure what the joke was and could not bring herself to laugh with them.
“What is happening, Jack?” she asked, “What kind of tradition is this?”
“The tradition is to try to jump someone, but people usually don’t get tricked into the pool and all that. No one really falls inside,” Jack answered, and Stella’s face went red in embarrassment.
She felt that she was the joke. They were mocking her for being stupid. She excused herself and went with the hotel staff to change. Soon, she returned wearing her dress. The hotel had quickly had it dried. She was glad she could still wear it. She had to redo her hair and make up. All through, she was fuming.
She returned to the ballroom to Jack’s side. As they talked, she noticed that Jack was behaving odd; he spoke in one word sentences and never really looked her way.
Soon, she could not take it anymore and wanted to ask, but the ceremony started. She moved. away from him to the other side of the hall, deciding to ask him later after the ceremony.
Like every other female, she took to one side of the ball while the parents watched from a distance. The tradition was to hand over a rose and the couple dance. If she danced with Jack, they could use this as an opportunity for him to propose.
Stella picked up a rose from a tray nervously and walked over to Jack. For some reason, he looked nervous, different from his usual self, something that bothered her, but she chucked it up to nerves. She soon stood in front of him and held up the fur, but Jack remained still. He looked at the fur in her hand but did not move.
Panic started to fill her chest.
“Jack, Jack,” she called to him, as her situation had stated to catch many eyes. Jack finally
