MISTAKE 56
Chapter 56: Signing Event
I saw a man put his hand on my wife’s back, and I was jealous and wanted to know who he was,” Daniel corrected with a straight face, and she was at a loss for words.
“Jealous?” she asked incredulously. It was as though someone had said that the ancient Egyptians disappeared because Cleopatra’s undies were thrown into Osiris‘ temple.
“Why not? I am human,” he answered.
“This document, wherever you got it, will have to pass through my lawyer, so there is nothing
to bother about,” she dismissed him.
“Keep scrolling,” he instructs her, and she continues after a moment of hesitation. She saw pictures of Stanley meeting with her lawyer. She already knew what this was the moment she saw it. But she could not bring herself to believe it.
“What is this?”
“The author of Autumn’s Snow is called Autumn Hanson. She is your lawyer, Mr. Hanson’s uncle,” he explained, and she started finding it hard to breathe..
“Why?” she asked.
“You are about to sign a deal tomorrow; should I hide it from you?” he asked.
“I mean, why are you helping me? You even said this is part of the reason you are marrying me?” she asked, her voice barely leaving her throat.
“Your art is now joint family property. You have probably handled several legal matters concerning your art with your lawyer, Mr. Hanson’s law firm. You are too exposed.” He said.
“I am asking why you married me again! Why do you want to help me? You have not helped me all this while; why start now? Why did you suddenly…” She threw a barrage of questions at
him.
“You are my wife; you have always been my wife, even after our divorce. That never changed and never will. As your husband, I should have protected you. Yet I did nothing. Am I supposed to keep doing nothing? I already did that once; that is not happening again,” he said, his eyes hardening as he looked into hers. Anya was somewhat disappointed. He felt responsible for her. His pride was pricked when someone plotted against her while she was married to him. She was not sure what she was expecting him to say. Did she think he would say that he loved her? Had she not gotten over him yet? When Daniel saw the disappointment in her eyes, he felt a slight panic, but she had already looked away..
“Then why? Why the author of Autumn Snow?” she asked Daniel, “Why not transfer copyright of my art to Stanley directly?”
“It doesn’t make any difference,” Daniel answered.
“Why?” she asked.
“It seems Stanley is the one that commissioned the author of Autumn Snow to write her book,” Daniel explained.
“So, he paid someone to make me a muse?” She found herself laughing. She nodded and stood from the table.
“I understand; I will think it through this night. I am not saying I don’t trust you, but I need to see that document with my own eyes,” she said and walked away.
The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room as Anya stood before her mirror, her hands trembling slightly as she applied the finishing touches to her makeup. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions; the events of the previous

night were still fresh in her memory as she prepared to face Stanley once more.
Daniel’s words echoed through her mind as she adjusted her hair, his warnings and promises intertwining in a tangled mess of uncertainty and a slight whiff of frustration. A part of her wondered if Daniel was just too paranoid. But her fear gnawed at her insides like a cluster of worms; Daniel never joked. If she knew anyone well, it was Daniel, and he took everything seriously. He would not make a mistake with this, right?
With a steadying breath, Anya straightened her shoulders, attempting to calm herself, yet her resolve hardened with each passing moment. As long as she does not sign, all will be well. If the document they give her bears any resemblance to the one Daniel had taken out last night, all of it would be confirmed.
She emerged from her room a while later and was met with the sight of Daniel waiting for her in the living room, a tray of breakfast spread out on the table before him. His expression was unreadable as he watched her approach; his gaze settled on her, a hint of obsession flickering in his eyes. That was his Anya.
“Good morning, Anya,” he said, his voice unusually soft. His gentle gaze raked over her, making her slightly uncomfortable.
Anya forced a smile as she took a seat opposite him at the table. “Good morning, Daniel,” she replied, her voice low and anxious. She still didn’t know how to deal with Daniel who brought her food. In all her years married to him, he had never willingly done anything for her. Seeing him waiting for her with a tray of breakfast was a visual she never thought she would ever see. Her heart trembled at the sight.
Daniel gestured to the food before them, his tone casual. “I ordered breakfast for us,” he said, his eyes never leaving hers. “I thought we could eat together before you leave.”
Anya’s stomach clenched with unease as she glanced down at the food, her appetite evaporating in the face of her mounting anxiety. “That’s… thoughtful of you, Daniel,” she murmured, her mind racing with a thousand doubts and fears. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
As they ate in silence, Daniel noticed she was finding it hard to swallow. Anya couldn’t shake
the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach–the sense that something was about to go horribly wrong.
“Don’t think too much. I am guessing you want to see their document for yourself,” he commented, and she nodded.
“Then don’t worry. If you get there and the document is the same as mine, Just get up and walk away,” he said, and she nodded again. She felt he was attempting to comfort her.
When they had finished eating, Daniel rose from the table and gestured towards the door. I’ve arranged for guards to accompany you to the hotel,” he said, his tone soft and gentle. ” They’ll ensure your safety and security.”
Anya’s eyes widened in surprise, her heart pounding in her chest as she stared up at Daniel in disbelief. “Guards?” she repeated, her voice tinged with incredulity. “Daniel, I don’t need guards. I’ll
be fine on my own.” Even when she was married to him the first time around, she never went around with guards. No one knew who she was anyway. She only accompanied him to private meetings and nothing else. Why did she suddenly need one now? She was uncomfortable with being followed.
Daniel’s expression hardened, his jaw set in a firm line as he met her gaze head–on. “This isn’t
up
for discussion, Anya,” he said, his tone cold and final. “I won’t take any chances with your safety. You’ll do as I say.”
Anya’s protests died on her lips as she realized that arguing with Daniel was useless. With a resigned sigh, she nodded her head with a stiff smile, waving her hand in surrender as he picked her bag. “Fine,” she muttered, her voice barely more than a whisper. “I am leaving now.”
As she made her way to the waiting car, Anya’s mind raced with a thousand thoughts and questions. She couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that clung to her like a witch’s cloak; the sense that something was about to go horribly wrong hovered over her like a curse.
As the car pulled out onto the busy streets, Anya’s anxiety only grew with each passing moment. She glanced out the window, her heart pounding in her chest as the towering
