The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday

Chapter 209

"Sorry, I was lost in my book! Lost track of time for a few minutes." Under the surprised gazes of everyone around, Freya hopped into Preston's car without a second thought.

Just then, Eloise emerged from a lecture hall, noticing a small crowd whispering and ogling a sleek, limited-edition sports car parked nearby. She frowned slightly.

"That's Freya, Kieran's fiancée, getting into Preston's car," someone murmured.

"To have someone like Preston waiting for her at the school gates, who knows what's going on between them," another added.

The group continued to trade speculations.

As the car pulled away, Eloise spotted Freya and Preston laughing and talking through the tinted windows, making her fists clench in frustration. So, Freya's previous offer to introduce her to Preston was to make a fool out of her! With that thought, Eloise quickly texted Caleb, urging him to make his move. She was determined to expose Freya's true colors to Kieran.

Meanwhile, inside the car, Preston's gaze landed on the stack of books in Freya's lap.

Noticing a copy of "Das Kapital" among them, he couldn't help but chuckle derisively.

That single chuckle was enough to catch Freya's attention.

"What's so funny?" Freya asked, her eyebrows knitting together.

"Reading stuff like that will only fry your brain," Preston replied with a smirk.

Freya responded defensively, "I've been reading all afternoon, and I think I've learned a lot!"

"Learned a lot?" Preston raised an eyebrow, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Textbooks just complicate simple things. They stretch something that could be explained in a sentence over two pages. I thought only average college students fell for that, but it seems you, Ms. Dawson, are no exception."

"You!" Freya was irked by Preston's mocking tone.

Suddenly, Freya opened the car window and tossed the books outside.

"There, the books are gone. You've made your point, Mr. Tyler. It seems you're offering to teach me how to run a business. I'm sure I have much to learn about finance from you," she said, her tone shifting to a more playful challenge.

Preston's smile faded a bit at that. "Mocking your studies to have me teach you? Aren't you a bit too greedy, Ms. Dawson?"

"Not at all!" Freya replied sincerely. "I mean, Mr. Tyler, you're a legend abroad. Coming to Echo City, you're here to make some waves, right?"

She subtly hinted at money laundering without saying it outright.

Hans, the driver, glanced at Freya through the rearview mirror with a wary eye.

Leaning against the window, Preston finally said, "I'll teach you. But it comes with a price."

Before Freya could express her excitement, Preston added, "You'll have to pay."

"I don't have money!" Freya insisted adamantly.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g

Preston slowly pulled out a document from the side, a loan agreement for ninety million, and laid it on the table. "With a

your name, Ms. Dawson, don't poor mouth to me."

Freya had gone to great lengths to trap Johanna, even using Preston's high-interest loan company to sign a contract with her. Fearless as ever, Johanna believed Kieran would bail the Dawson family out of trouble and signed without hesitation.

However, the ninety million was for

Johanna from Freya, meaning

Johanna would owe Freya a

staggering sum, plus interest a surefire profit for Freya.

But for Freya, it wasn't just about the money. It was another way to potentially send Johanna to jail and stop her from causing more trouble. "Regardless, I owe you one for this, Mr. Tyler..."
