Chapter 51
Chapter 51
On Monday, Cordelia hopped off Ronan's car at the entrance of Lumos Enterprises.
She bumped into Brooklyn in the company lobby.
"Looking all smiley today. Had a good time last night?" Brooklyn asked Cordelia.
"Cut the crap." replied Cordelia, glancing back, noticing that Ronan was parking the car and didn't
accompany her into the company.
Now, whenever Cordelia couldn't see Ronan, she'd feel a sense of loss.
She knew this marriage would sooner or later come to an end, so she decided to make the most out of
the present.
After a busy morning, Cordelia was getting ready for lunch when she heard some noise at the door.
A few people walked into the office, pushing carts full of fancy food bags.
"Hard work pays off, folks. These are from Ms. Deanna." a staff member announced.
Cordelia thought to herself: Ms. Deanna? Deanna?
All eyes turned to Cordelia.
Why are they all looking at me? It's from Deanna, Cordelia wondered.
When a food bag was handed to her, she opened it to find a beautifully prepared Bibimbap.
"Ms. Deanna is so nice to us. So generous." Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"Yeah, looks like she treated the whole company. How much did she spend? There are thousands of
people in this building."
"Must be a few grand. What's on the food bag?"
They all seemed to purposely praise Deanna, as if to provoke Cordelia.
Cordelia glanced at the bag. It read, "My Dear Dr. Rowland", along with a dramatic photo of Deanna
with red lips, looking stunningly beautiful.
It was a promotion for her new show, probably the one shot at the hospital.
Cordelia didn't eat egg yolks, so she picked it out to throw it away. Even though she felt it was wasteful,
no one wanted her egg yolk.
Just as she tossed the egg yolk in the trash, she heard someone say, "The official showdown begins."
Cordelia was taken aback, then realized: they thought she threw away the egg yolk as an act of
defiance against Deanna.
Cordelia didn’t want to overthink it and started eating, disliking the atmosphere.
...
Deanna went to Ronan's office.
The staff had also brought a meal for Ronan, but his was more luxurious, an upgrade from the regular
employees'.
"I've got a new workplace drama series, Ronan. Give me a hand promoting it." Deanna said with a
smile.
"I'm not in a PR firm, nor am I in the Promotion Department. Your efforts here will hardly make any
difference." Ronan said bluntly.
"I just want to do my little bit. Is it good?" Deanna asked.
"I've already ordered food. I'm eating." Ronan replied, "Seems like I have to disappoint you. Your show
looks good. Where was it shot?"
Ronan asked casually, then called his secretary to take his meal to Cordelia in the Finance
Department.
Deanna clenched her teeth nervously. Ronan was deliberately putting her on the spot.
The secretary took the meal away.
"At Millstone Hospital." Deanna replied, watching as her carefully prepared meal was taken to the
Finance Department.
Ronan slightly frowned, "Really?"
"Oh, I ran into Cordelia at the hospital when I was filming on Saturday." Deanna said, "She seemed to
be chatting with a guy outside for quite a while."
"That's her brother."
"Does she have two brothers?" Deanna seemed to understand, "I was wondering why they were
holding hands. I was going to tell you to keep a tight leash on your wife."
Ronan's expression became icy.
Cordelia hadn't told him anything about her experience at the hospital, only thanked him for hiring a
caregiver for her mother, then went to sleep on his bed.
The two men must have been Adrian and Jamie. Adrian was the Colby family's driver, and it wasn't
surprising that he went with Jamie.
Ronan speculated that Adrian, having not achieved a satisfactory result here, might be trying to
introduce Cordelia to Jamie again.
"Oh, Ronan, I should go. I have work this afternoon. You didn't like the meal I ordered for you. What a
waste of my efforts."
With that, Deanna left.
