The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 63

Chapter 63

Ronan was changing his clothes in the bedroom.

He glanced at the pregnancy test and ultrasound results on the table. They looked so real it could fool

anyone.

His hand paused, his thoughts drifting.

Cordelia walked in. She no longer had the exaggerated and coquettish expression she had downstairs.

She looked exhausted, flopping onto the bed as soon as she entered. The struggle was over, she took

a deep breath.

Yet, a more pressing matter was on the table: now that she was "pregnant", how was she going to

"terminate" the pregnancy successfully.

“Thank God grandpa didn't suspect anything. I was afraid he might get upset,” Cordelia seemed to

mutter to herself.

“Are you really pregnant?” He asked Cordelia, his voice as serious and calm as usual.

“Huh?” Cordelia opened her eyes, looking at Ronan who was five steps away. “Why are you asking

this? Don’t you know whether I’m pregnant or not?”

Ronan always took precautions. She was probably referring to this.

He also knew that it would be easy for her to forge a pregnancy test.

Still, for the first time, Ronan had a flicker of hope: what if? Condoms aren’t 100% reliable.

“Who did this report for you?” Ronan asked, realizing her meaning was “not pregnant”, his mood

sinking a little.

“My classmate Victoria. She, Brooklyn, and I, we’re besties, like a solid triangle,.” Cordelia said.

“Oh?” Ronan looked at Cordelia, relieved, a bit annoyed. “Besties? What role do you play in this

relationship?”

“Well,” Cordelia’s eyes sparkled as she reminisced about her school days. “I'm the sharpest character.”

She even made a triangle with her hands.

“I see. You're so sharp it hurts,” Ronan said.

“Huh?” Cordelia was a bit puzzled by his words.

Cordelia sensed something off about Ronan's tone. Today was Barney's birthday and they just got

through a tough situation. Shouldn't he be happy? Why was he so moody?

“Did I do something wrong?” Cordelia felt a bit wronged. “Are you upset because I told my brother the

truth about our marriage? I didn't tell him voluntarily, he guessed it. Telling him only lands me in trouble.

If I tell anyone, our agreement would be terminated. What's in it for me?”

Ronan didn't answer. But that night, he took out his frustration on Cordelia.

Tears welled up in Cordelia's eyes as she asked, “What’s this about? Are you upset because I hurt

Deanna's feelings by saying I was pregnant?”

“Yes, I'm upset! But not about that.”

“Then what are you upset about?” Cordelia thought: anyway, it’s definitely not about me.

Ronan seemed lost in desire, he didn't answer, just kept kissing Cordelia's neck.

By Monday, the whole company was talking about Cordelia's pregnancy.

When she went to the pantry to get coffee, a colleague kindly suggested, “Cordelia, coffee isn’t good

for you, switch to milk or water.”

When Cordelia returned to her desk, she found a new, thick cushion on her chair.

Everyone avoided Cordelia, afraid to accidentally touch her and cause a scene.

Cordelia was surprised.

Only Brooklyn knew the truth. Cordelia asked Brooklyn, "Did you tell everyone in the company?"

"No, a colleague just asked where I was on Sunday, I said I went to deliver something to you. She

asked, you went to Mr. Evans’ house? For what? I saw Deanna at your house that day, so I said I was

delivering your pregnancy test. This way, if Deanna bothers Mr. Evans again, people will know she's

destroying a family with a child. If Mr. Evans responds in any way, it would be considered infidelity.

Once this gets out on the internet, they’re done. Tell me, wasn't I brilliant?”

"You're such a big mouth," Cordelia replied.

"I'm not, my colleague is."

Brooklyn knew Cordelia's pregnancy was a sham. Her grand gesture might cause trouble for Cordelia.

After some time, if Cordelia's belly doesn't grow, they would say Cordelia faked her pregnancy to win

favor. Then, the one exposed on the internet wouldn't be Deanna, but her.

Cordelia was frustrated, thinking: how am I going to explain this? Won't I turn out to be a big liar?

The company seemed to be flattering her, but in reality, they were flattering Ronan's "offspring", or

rather, they were indirectly flattering Ronan.

Cordelia understood this.

She told Adrian the truth in an opposite way on that day: contractual marriage, having a child was a big

hassle. She was still young and wanted to become a CPA in the future. How was she going to apply for

a job with a child? How was she going to get married again?

Moreover, Cordelia felt that Ronan was very indifferent to this matter. He definitely wouldn't help

Cordelia find a way to "abort".

The director of the Training Center sent a notice, "From now on, the Lumos Star training on every ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

Friday will be changed to Monday, and this week is still Mr. Evans' class. Everyone, submit the

homework Mr. Evans assigned last time to the group."

Brooklyn sent a message to Cordelia, "Mr. Evans again."

Cordelia frowned slightly, thinking: doesn't he get tired of lecturing all the time?

Twenty-some homework assignments were submitted in the group one after another.

Nobody dared not to do the homework assigned by the CEO.

Class started, Cordelia and Brooklyn sat in the last row.

Ronan was lecturing on the stage. He said he had to go on a business trip the week after next, so he

was giving the lecture this week. He just assigned homework last week, afraid that people would forget.

"Where is he going on a business trip?" Brooklyn asked Cordelia.

"How should I know, it could've been a spur of the moment thing."

Ronan began critiquing the previous assignment, the crisis PR one, which was super crucial.

"Only Cordelia did a qualified job on this assignment, everyone else, do it again!" Ronan was dead

serious.

All these trainees were cream of the crop, yet in Ronan's eyes, they were all greenhorns.

The atmosphere in the training room turned a few degrees cooler.

"You've got some solid upbringing there. We're not all that lucky." Brooklyn seemed a bit bummed.

"Cut the crap." To her surprise, Cordelia found herself a bit flattered.

Her eyes twinkled as she looked up at Ronan.

Coincidentally, Ronan's gaze met hers and Cordelia quickly looked away.
