The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage

Chapter 1971

"Just a phone?" the geezer asked in concern. "You didn't see anyone?"

"Nope." The grunt looked around waily with his cell phone's flashlight. "There's no one around here. Maybe someone from the hospital dropped it by accident."

"Dropped it? I see..."

The geezer patted his chest and sighed in relief at the grunt's reasoning.

Still, he snapped, "Now listen here—keep looking. We need to make sure that there's no one else other than us here.

"You know what would happen if we're exposed-you, me, and everyone else here will become expendable assets for the commissioner and Carlo Group. None of us will survive!"

"Yes, sir!"

The grunts were certainly somber at the geezer's grave words and continued to comb through every nook and cranny around him.

Knowing that there was no escaping now, Jolie, who slowly approached the storeroom shutters, finally resolved herself to stay out of this mess involving Zamri Hospital.

With a bigwig like the Zamri commissioner being involved, crushing a measly journalist like herself was a matter of thought.

Hence, she watched out for the right timing before the grunts inside and outside the storeroom noticed and darted out of the storeroom.

Be that as it may, the sound of Jolie's heels were a clearly different sound from the footsteps of the grunts.

Everyone in the storeroom heard it at the same time and turned to find the dark blur darting out through the raised shutter.

They all felt the same sinking feeling-if word of what happened here got out, it was all over for them!

"Go after them! Don't let them get away!"

In a split second, all the grunts and the geezer charged at Jolie in a frenzy.

Jolie certainly heard the shouts behind her, which doubled her panic.

She could not run fast because of

her heels, and distracted by her amet

fear, she misjudged a step and

twisted her ankle.

"Oof..." She gasped in pain, even as she knew that she must not fall into the hands of those men-if she did, therewas nothing waiting but death.

Taking off her heels, she limped as quickly as she could to the street a block away.

There were many mobile food kiosks on that street, and it was a bustling public street.

She would be safe as long as she made it there.

Even as she fled as fast as she could, the grunts and the geezer behind here appeared to despair.

"Shit! We're fucked, Dr. Jorst!"

One of the grunts was already sobbing. "She's too far ahead for us to catch up... What should we do now?" "Fuck!"

The

Yannick Jorst, the head coroner

whom Winter had just fired the

afternoon.

He had to stop and wheeze to catch his breath—stamina was really not his forte at his age.

As such, even if he was closest to where that person had fled, there was no way he could catch up. Nheless, he looked up under the glow of the streetlights and saw the truck parked nearby. He scrambled to get into the driver's seat without another word.
