Chapter 1974
"How'd you know?"
"Why wouldn't I know? The commissioner himself staged this whole thing!"
"Watch what you say, unless you have proof!"
Frank entered just then, and the police officers who were whispering among each other quickly composed themselves.
The policewoman earlier even cleared her throat awkwardly.
Still, Frank did not demand the truth from them—they would not tell him anything and were just following orders.
At the same time, he realized that the Zamri commissioner was in league with Carlo Group as he had expected, and they were out to take down Frank himself, Lanecorp, and even Zamri Hospital.
"Oh, right!"
Still, Frank suddenly remembered the token that Stanley Durban, the mayor of Zamri, had given him.
It was obvious that someone among the officers inside the morgue had mentioned the commissioner on purpose when he stepped outside to make his phone call.
Was it possible that one of them was working for Stanley?
Taking out the dagger and weighing it on his palm, he studied the reactions on the officers faces when he said, "Officers, since your investigation has concluded, feel free to see yourselves out."
"Thank you for your cooperation."
"See you, Mr. Lawrence."
As the other police officers left, the policewoman from earlier told her colleagues, "You guys go ahead without me. I have more notes to make about the corpse."
"Okay."
The other officers suspected nothing and left.
When it was just the policewoman and Frank left in the room, she turned toward him—or the dagger he was holding, to be precise.
After a brief silence, she looked up and asked coolly, "Where did you get that from?"
"Someone gave it to me," Frank admitted openly. "He said that it's a token that would prove useful when the time comes."
The policewoman continued to stare
at Frank fixedly for a while, but her
net
gaze was soon less hostile as she nodded. Carlo Group and the commissioner will be meeting at the third floor of Emerald Court at 9 PM tonight. On the surface, it's a welcoming party for Carlo Group's venture into Zamri."
"Is that so?" Frank's eye lit up at the tip.
"Farewell," the policewoman said, her expression suddenly cold again.
As she left Frank stood alone,
smirking. "A welcoming party foret

When he stepped out of the morgue, he just happened to hear a nurse whispering to her colleague. "Tot, tut...did you see? That journalist is really fucked!"
"Yeah, most of her ribs were crushed and sticking into her internal organs. It's a miracle that she's alive at all!" "Journalist? What journalist?"
Frank was immediately curious when he heard that and turned toward the two nurses standing by the front desk.
They flinched, as they naturally recognized Frank given where they worked and that he was the hospital chief's brother. "I-It's nothing." The nurse quickly hung her head, presuming that her gossiping annoyed Frank.
