find them
Two years later.
Pedro extended his hand to open Marco’s office door. Inside, his boss sat in his oversized chair, gazing out the large window. It seemed that over the past two years, Marco’s boss had increasingly engaged in this activity, looking into the distance as if seeing a shattered future. No more laughter echoed, no more softness in a woman’s voice that could touch his tender heart.
Pedro felt concerned about Marco’s current life. Marco was no longer the arrogant figure; he appeared like a lonely lion. For these two years, Marco seldom returned to their grand house. Most of his time was spent in the office, resembling a small home, where he tried to forget the sweet memories with his wife and daughter. Up to this point, Marco hadn’t heard any news, no matter how small, about them.
Pedro then sighed deeply.
“Sir,” Pedro uttered, making Marco mumble without intending to turn and look in his direction.
“I’ve finally located them,” Pedro said, making Marco immediately jerk. The news he had been waiting for for two years had finally come to fruition. Marco rose from his seat and walked towards Pedro.
“You got their whereabouts right, didn’t you?” Marco asked, making sure. Pedro nodded. He handed Marco a brown envelope. Inside, several photos obtained by Pedro made Marco, with trembling hands, look at the smiles of Letta and a little girl who looked so much like her. Freya, now three years old, became an adorable little girl. The photos showed them at a vineyard.
“Where are they?” Marco asked, making Pedro hand him a piece of paper with Letta and Freya’s address.
“Turns out, she really ran too far away from me, to the point where I couldn’t reach her,” Marco said while looking at the address.
“Prepare my departure,” Marco said without hesitation. However, Pedro didn’t move from his place, making Marco feel that something hadn’t been fully reported.
“What? Is there something else you haven’t told me?” Marco asked, making Pedro nod.
“The detective looking for news about Mrs. And Miss Letta was caught by a man suspected to be close to them,” Pedro said, causing Marco to clench his fists tightly.
“What do you mean by a man close to them?” Marco asked.
“It turns out to be Abian who lived with them,” Pedro said, making Marco unable to accept this reality. Did his wife escape from him because her memories had returned and she chose to return with Abian?
“Have you confirmed it? Do they live in the same house?” Marco asked. Pedro remained silent.
“We haven’t been able to confirm if they live together, but they reside in the same place. However, when my informant tried to investigate further, he was caught by Abian, who warned not to disturb them anymore. Until you find out, there’s a good chance they’ll have to find a new place again. Mrs. And Miss Freya were very happy living there, and Abian said not to disturb them,” Pedro said.
Marco’s face changed instantly. Would knowing this only destroy their current happiness, Marco wondered.
“So, what should I do?” Marco asked with a desperate tone, making Pedro uneasy about delivering all this news to his boss. But Pedro had no other choice but to say it.
“Should I pretend not to know their whereabouts and continue suffering like this without hearing any explanation from Letta?” Marco asked, leaving Pedro silent.
“Forgive me, sir. I’m just conveying the message given by that man.”
“I don’t care. For two years, I’ve endured enough of this pain, and I want to know directly if Letta truly doesn’t want to see me again. I might even disappear, not just in front of her. Maybe she’ll never hear my name again. So, prepare my departure now,” Marco said, determined to find out if Letta was really avoiding him just because he wanted to meet his little daughter. Pedro had no other choice but to follow his boss’s every word and prepare their departure to where Letta and Freya were. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
After Pedro left, Marco stared at the photos, longing for Letta and their child. For 2 years, Marco couldn’t forget them. Despite trying to leave the memory-filled grand house and moving to an empty workspace, their memories were too strong. The warmth in those memories made him reluctant to let go. Knowing Letta’s whereabouts, Marco refused to listen to the threats of the man daring to take away his happiness. Even if Letta would forbid him to return, Marco was willing to disappear from her life, as long as he could bring happiness to Letta.
“For me, the most important thing is how to dispel the pain I’ve been carrying all this time. I can release all the pain I’ve been holding onto,” Marco said to the photos in front of him. Pedro returned and stated that everything was ready; this was the opportunity to meet his wife. Regardless of Letta’s reaction, Marco’s desire was to release all his suffering by seeing Letta and Freya in front of him directly.
