Chapter 285
pter 285 My Sister is My Boss!
Fiona pushed them away and yelled, “Get away from me. Where were you when | was rejected a while ago?” Chapter 284 Eleven Years
Hope nodded. As they looked up at the sky, the fireworks started! The dark sky was lit up by colorful shapes. It was a spectacular view! Just as the audience’s sense of anticipation started to die down, the sky lit up with a firework in the shape of the island.
“Maia, did you see that? It’s the shape of the island! This is the main show. It’s really
beautiful!” Hope commented excitedly. She was in awe at how amazing the fireworks were as they continued to blossom in the sky.
The fireworks were set off so rapidly that Hope’s eyes could not keep up with them. Various shapes and colors formed in the dark sky. Before she could see them all, they were already gone.
Aside from the staff of Maya Cove, most people on the beach were famous people who had been to all kinds of events. Yet, they were still mesmerized by the island's fireworks show.
The fireworks continued when suddenly the phrase ’11 years‘ appeared in the sky. Everyone was confused as to what it meant. As Maia was so focused on the show, she too was taken aback to see ’11 years’ appearing in the sky. “| wonder what that means. Maia, do you know?” Hope tilted her head and asked in confusion.
When Hope did not receive any response, she turned to Maia. “Could this be the anniversary of Maya Cove? But | don’t think HL Corporation would've taken that long to build this place.”
Hope continued to wonder, but Maia still had not given her any response.
“Maia? Maia? Are you okay? Are you so mesmerized by the fireworks that you can’t answer my questions?” Hope pestered incessantly.
As Hope continued to talk to her, Maia was finally drawn back to reality. Just then, someone approached them and stood at Maia’s side.
Hope’s eyes widened in shock as she wanted to yelp, but before she could react, Cedric signaled her to stay quiet.
Hope was a smart girl. She pointed at a different direction and indicated that she would leave. After that, she took a few steps back and disappeared from Maia’s side.
Maia was not aware that Hope had left and somebody else had replaced her. Maia mumbled ’11 years’ to herself and smiled bitterly. No one knew how much those numbers had meant to her. It was 11 years of love, heartache and pain.
She could not hold it in any longer as her emotions overwhelmed her. Tears started streaming down her face. Maia lowered her head as her hair framed her face and danced in the wind.

Maia lifted her head to the sky as the next firework was set off. Her tears fell onto the sandy beach, but to Cedric it felt as though they were dropped into his chest as he felt a scorching
sensation in his heart.
“There’s a local myth. If a couple watches the fireworks together, they would be together forever.” Maia turned her head toward the familiar voice. Their eyes met and they could feel
an instant attraction between them.
Cedric lit the sparkler in his hand and gave it to Maia. She froze for a while before raising her hand to accept it. As she looked at the beautiful sparkler, she recalled the winter that they had spent together.
That day, they had walked side by side in the snow.
“| heard that if a couple walks together in the snow, they will be together forever.
“That’s just a superstition.”
Maia looked at the sparkler as it extinguished in her hand. She smiled and glanced at Cedric.” That's just a superstition.” History had a tendency to repeat itself. It was just that their roles had switched.
“When the fireworks end, there will be nothing left. How could we be together forever? Just like when snow melts, nothing lasts as well.” Maia concluded as she threw the extinguished sparkle in the trash can and turned to leave.
Just as she was about to leave, he confessed. “Even if there’s nothing left, as long as I’m alive, I'll always have your back.” This was his promise to her.
Maia came to a halt as she was surprised by his earnest tone. She took a deep breath, clenched her hands tightly into fists and said, “I don’t need anyone to have my back.”
Maia rejected him and left without turning back.
At that moment, a few female artists started to gather around Cedric, including Fiona. She was wearing a sheer top with her bikini showing under it. She walked toward Cedric and addressed him sultrily.
“Leave.” Cedric ordered, not even looking at them. The crowd immediately dissipated in fear of angering him. Fiona stood on the spot awkwardly as she watched him leave. She gritted her teeth in anger as
she had ended up being humiliated.
After he had left, Fiona’s goons approached her and asked with concern, “Fiona, are you okay?”
Cha
“Fiona, we were just afraid of Mr. Cedric.”
“Yeah. We're not from a prestigious family like you, nor are we as pretty as you. We would never dare show ourselves in front of Mr. Cedric. Please, don’t be mad at us,” said Jane.
“Well, you've got that right.” Fiona looked at Jane in satisfaction.
“It's all because of you that | was able to attend such an important event. Of course, | would always stand by your side.” Jane buttered Fiona up as she smirked at Julie.
“Since you're so good with words, do you have any idea how to draw Mr. Cedric’s attention to me? If you could help me with this, I'll make sure to give you something satisfying in return. I’m sure you know that my family is preparing to film a new drama and a variety show.”Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Jane’s eyes brightened when she heard what Fiona had said. She needed to grab this opportunity! “I do have an idea.” Fiona looked at Jane doubifully, she could not believe that Jane would be able to come up with a plan at such short notice. Jane nodded convincingly. She looked around her before making sure that no one was eavesdropping on them.
“| know a drug that could numb people’s senses and make them do your bidding. I’m not sure about the details but | know that this drug could be bought in the black market at a high price.
“There were a group of people who had tried to create the drug by experimenting on people. The news about those college girls getting into trouble was due to this drug too.”
“Are you sure about this?” Fiona asked. “Of course, and | actually have some on me right now.’ Fiona was slightly surprised and excited to hear it. “I can’t believe you would spend so much on them!”
“It's my way of finding a rich man. | need to use anything | can to make sure | get the life | want. It was also difficult for me to get my hands on the drug, | really had to go through different channels to get it. However, I’m willing to give it all to you! | want to help you get Mr. Cedric!” Jane insisted.
“Good! I’m glad that | have such a good friend.” Fiona smiled and hugged Jane’s shoulders as they walked back to the resort, ignoring Julie who was left trailing behind them.
Hope was sitting in the terrace seat of a barbecue eatery. She had ordered a plate of charcoal- grilled seafood and was eating to her heart’s content.
“Why are you here eating on your own?” Maia walked toward her and asked.
Hope was focused on her food. She did not even notice that it was Maia talking to her. “My sister is busy with someone else, and since she’s not around me, | can finally eat what | want!”
Maia shook her head as she watched Hope stuffing her face, “Hope, do you think it’s a good idea to eat that much? Especially in front of your boss?”
“You're not my boss! My sister is!” Hope said as she turned her head slowly toward the source of the voice. She froze as she saw Maia smiling at her.
“H-Hi.” Hope swallowed hard before looking behind-Maia. “Why are you here alone? Where’s Mr. Cedric?”
Maia got frustrated when she heard Hope ask about him. She walked over to her and pinched her cheek. “You're one to talk! You just left me on the beach and came here to enjoy dinner!”
“Maia, I’m sorry! Please, let me go. If you keep doing that to my face, I'll get wrinkles!” Hope pleaded.
“Besides, it’s not like | wanted to leave you there. It was Mr. Cedric. | could tell he wanted me to leave by the look on his face. Anyway, what did he say to you?”
Maia did not bother answering. Instead, she pointed at the grilled seafood and asked, “You're so excited when it comes to my gossip. Why don’t | see the same excitement when you’re supposed to be on your diet?”
Hope grabbed another grilled shrimp and started eating. She smiled at Maia and said, “Gossip and good food are a match made in heaven!”
“If everyone at the company was like you, our company would probably go under,” Maia said.
“Just this one time, | promise!” Hope pleaded.
“Fine. Just this once.” Maia gave in and took a seat next to her. “Let me have some too!”
Hope laughed as she heard her sister’s comment. She pushed one of the plates closer to her.” Please, help yourself!” “Why are you drinking coconut juice? Where's the beer? How could you not have beer with barbecue?”
“Maia, if most bosses were like you, their company would probably end up bankrupt as well.”
“Just this once,” Maia added as she winked at Hope. Shortly after, she ordered a pint of beer.

Hope had a low threshold for alcohol, so she continued to drink her juice. Maia, however, was able to hold her liquor. A few pints of beer was nothing to her.
As Maia downed one glass after another, Hope finally noticed that something was not right. ” Maia, is something wrong?” she asked after taking a bite of her food.
Maia was surprised at Hope’s concern. She remained quiet and started questioning herself. After Hope brought it up, Maia finally realized that her heart was aching, and she felt like she was suffocating.
